Chapter Twelve

Rayna's Point of Veiw

"Quitsis," the doctor, Dr. Kadowaki, said into an earpiece, "your student has healed enough to return to class. Could you come and get him? Oh, and those three girls, Tifa, Aeris,and... the new girl... yeah, Rayna, have been staying with him ever since they head he was hurt. Tell them that I wish them luck on the SeeD exam tomorrow."

Cloud and I sat in the room of the infirmary that Cloud has been staying in waiting for Quitsis. Tifa, Aeris, and I were taking shifts on staying with Cloud so the other two could return to class, and I was my turn to stay with him. The room was dead silent as Cloud and I sat alone (with only each other).

I tapped my foot while waiting for our instructor to come and get us. We weren't allowed to leave here until she came (what a stupid rule; we were seventeen! We could go everywhere else by ourselves).

After what felt like... forever... Quitsis came in. Her long blonde was clipped up. Two sections of her hair fell out of the clip, in a way that framed her face, and fell onto her shoulders like a cascade of gold. She wore a red zip-up tank top and a long matching skirt (like always), and brown knee-high boots. She had a pair of glasses perched on her nose.

"Cloud," she said, "you and Tifa really scared me the other day. Please, tell me from now on. You'll be a SeeD soon, so I won't have to worry as much, but if you leave without telling me, I will worry about you. I am responsible for you."

Cloud didn't respond. Quitsis laughed.

"You and Squall!" she laughed. "You two are always like this!" She then turned to me and smiled warmly. "I hear you can be smart when it comes to medicine," she said to me.

"Yeah," I replied, "I get that from my mom."

"Really?" she asked, then she waved us out the door saying, "Come on, you two."

Cloud walked ahead, after hearing an order saying "Go easy, now," from Dr. Kodowaki, saying he was going to our room to get something. Quitsis and I walked behind. As we did so, Quitsis took off her glasses and rubbed her eye. I noticed that without her glasses, Quitsis looked a lot younger.

"Um..." I said. Quitsis turned.

"Yes?" she smiled, putting her glasses back on.

"Not to be rude or anything," I responded, "but how old are you?"

"Eighteen," she answered.

"I knew it!" I exclaimed, punching the air.

"Knew what?"

"I knew you were younger than the others!"

Quitsis laughed.

"I became I SeeD when I was fifteen," she recalled.

"Seriously?"

"Yeah."

As we entered the classroom, Quitsis announced that we were doing SeeD training. We were going to be sparring with a partner, so she assigned them to us.

Squall and Rinoa.

Selphie and Zell.

Aeris and Tifa.

Cloud and some other dude.

Me and...

Oh no, I thought when I heard who I was signed to.

Seifer Almasy.

I had heard about him, and I heard that he left that mark on Squall's face. Everyone stood up to go to their partner, but I had honestly never seen Seifer. So he would have to find me. I stood up and looked around, then a shadow of someone taller than me was cast onto me. I turned and saw a guy with blonde hair, blue-green eyes, a blue shirt under a white jacket-thingie, tan pants, and a scar across his face in almost the exact place as Squall's. Exept his was slanted differently.

"What happened to your face?" I asked, though I didn't really care.

"My scar?" he asked. His voice... how do I explain this...? It sounded angry. I did nothing to him, so I guessed it was always like that. I decided to mess with him (though I was aware it could get me killed).

"No," I said, "what happened to your face? I mean the whole thing."

He growled at me, and I (for some reason) shielded my face. He was about to do something to me, but he was cut of by Quitsis' warning "Seifer, don't hurt your training partner."

"Whatever," he grumbled, "let's go."

Quitsis stood next to me for my safety as we walked down the hallway.

"I had to see how he treated girls," Quitsis whispered to me.

"Then why me?" I whisper-shouted.

"Because I think you have what it takes to fight him," Quitsis snapped back.

"No, I don't! Tifa does!"

"Tifa could've been killed the other night," she stated.

She was right. I sighed.

"I don't even have a weapon," I said out loud.

"Well," Quitsis replied, "what do you have experience with?"

"Um..." I said, "I'm really good with the bow and arrow, but I can use a sword, too."

"Alright," the instructor said, then immersed in thought, she said, "Okay, I have stuff for you in the training center, then."

Seifer said nothing the whole walk through the halls.

Probably wondering why they assigned a weak new girl to fight him, I sighed to myself. If so, I was going to prove him wrong.

"Here we are," Quitsis said as we walked into the training center. It was like the gym from my old school. It had wooden floors and that stuff. There was a door that Quitsis used a key to open, and it led to the room where they stashed weapons. She then grabbed a bow and a quiver of arrows, then she lifted up a sword sheath. She lightly tossed the sheath, caught it, then drew the sword.

"Perfect," she said, after examining it.

Then she put it back, and handed me the weapons.

"Use the sword for today's training," she ordered.

"Okay," I agreed.

I took out the sword and examined it. It was light for easy use, and it had a key imprinted on it.

Ironic. I was wearing a key necklace. And a key was imprinted on the back of my blue-jean vest. How funny.

"You ready, new girl?" Seifer growled.

"The name's Rayna," I said, turning with my already-drawn sword.

"Yeah, whatever. You ready?"

"Of coarse I am."

I really wasn't. I was going to die.
