New Orleans 1919

The Opera House is up in flames. Waterfalls of tears cast down my face as I look back at the building. My poor baby. My Little Gerard.

"Elizabeth..."

He is dead.... Marcellus is dead.

"Elizabeth..."

My boy. My sweet, sweet boy.

Arms suddenly shake me, making my eyes focus on the man in front of me. "Elizabeth, we must go! We must leave here before it's too late!"

I look at him with utter disparity. "Elijah, he is gone! My Little Gerard. My Marcellus is dead!"

He sighs sadly and caresses my cheek. "I know, my love, but we must go now! Otherwise, my father will catch us and we will be joining him in death." I pull myself together enough to follow him outside. There, we meet Niklaus with a broken Rebekah in his arms. Mikael's enraged screams are heard. Elijah takes my hand and hurries beside him down the empty street. "He's coming." Elijah steps up onto the sidewalk and grabs a metal stake from someone's fence as Niklaus sets Rebekah down on the street.

He bites into his wrist and feeds Rebekah his blood to awaken her. "Come on, little sister."

Rebekah awakens, speaking the name that hit my heart like a knife. "Marcel."

Elijah looks at her with sympathy. "He's gone, sister." She looks behind them to see the Opera House in flames, screams are heard from those dying, trapped inside.

Rebekah immediately shakes her head crying. "No. No."

Elijah looks to Niklaus. "Take the girls and flee the city. I'll hold him off, Niklaus."

Niklaus pulls up Rebekah to her feet as I grab Elijah's arm. "I'm not leaving you!"

Niklaus agrees with me. "No. We fight him together."

Elijah shakes his head and places his hands on my face. "We cannot fight him. All we can do is do what we've done. We deceive him. We lead him astray. Now, I can do that as well as anyone." He gently kisses my head as I continue to shake my head. He, then, walks to Niklaus. "You take them far away from here. I'll follow you."

Rebekah and I call out together. "No, Elijah. You can't."

"You can't, Elijah." Rebekah cries. "This is just- this is my fault."

Niklaus hugs her tight. "No, sister. This is my fault. I am so sorry. I'm sorry. Marcel--" The building explodes, all of us turn to look. Sirens fill the air. Niklaus sighs. "I thought we'd found a home here."

Elijah's voice sounds out."Niklaus, please. Sister, come." He hugs Rebekah and kisses her cheek softly. "You must leave. Go." Niklaus stares at him, a single tear falls from his face, Elijah cries out. "Leave!" At vampire speed Niklaus disappears with Rebekah into the night, leaving us alone. Elijah grabs my hands and looks desperately into my eyes. "Please, you must go. I cannot lose you."

My sniffles come as I look at him, trying to keep myself together. "But I can't lose you, Elijah!" He runs a hand through my hair. "I will return to you, I give you my word. Go and find Niklaus and Rebekah. I will be there shortly." Elijah pulls me into his arms and presses his lips against mine. From all the kisses I shared with him in the last century, this one was different. It was passionate, but desperate. Sweet, but full of disparity. This is what a goodbye truly feels like. He looks into my eyes with its confirmation, then turned to see if Mikael was coming.

Suddenly, I feel a sharp stabbing in my back, and it pierces inches below my heart. Knowing it is Mikael, I cast a spell making me look like I dessicate. Elijah hears my cries and turns, shouting in devestation. "NO!" He runs to me and holds me in his arms. "No, no, no, no."

Mikael steps toward us. "Let this be considered a lesson. You lose what you hold dear when sided with abominations."

With that he ran off leaving a mourning Elijah. "Elizabeth, please stay with me. Please, I beg of you." Under my spell, I can hear, but cannot respond. Where did this all go wrong? We were building a vampire empire and it came crashing down. Finally into deep unconsciousness. In the darkness, go back to my first day as a vampire.....
