Christmas time. Growing up, this was my favorite holiday. This was the one day my family was happy together. We put aside our differences, and loved each other. I tried to use that idea with our family, sometimes it worked. Other times, not so much.
Something about this Christmas, though, was indeed joyful than the last. Maybe it was because it was a new century, or it could be that our family was mended back together. Nik even undaggerd Kol a few months ago because I told him we have spent enough christmas celebrations without him, and what is Christmas without the whole family?
The party is in full swing, and people are milling about the courtyard in their finest outfits. After mingling with the guests, we walk up the stairs, drinking champagne and pose for a family photograph. I watch as Kol raises his glass to the witch he was entertaining tonight, and she does the same in return.
After the photo has been taken, Niklaus taps on his glass with a knife to get the party's attention. "As you know, when the Mikaelsons arrived in Louisiana, we brought with us the tradition of holiday bonfire season. Now, we invite you chosen few to join us in our family's own tradition of writing wishes for each other and burning them for luck. The holidays are a time for celebrating family, and friends." He looks at Marcellus and I and I grin. "It is especially gratifying in times when treachery runs deep."
He looks back at Kol, who looks confused, and I lean to Niklaus. "Nikki, please not now. Not on Christmas." Stupid, niave, Kol. He should have known Rebekah would tell.
Niklaus ignores me and continues. "To know you have someone you can trust. A toast, to you, my sister." Rebekah smiles at him, as everyone raises their glasses and joins. "To Rebekah!"
I see Kol starting to head up the stairs to get away and I look pleadingly to Elijah, but he just kisses my temple and whispers to me. "Forgive me, my dear." Elijah quickly vamp-speeds after him. When he blocks Kol's path, Kol turns around to find Niklaus blocking the exit behind him.
Elijah grabs him by the arms and pulls his jacket off, as Nik calls out to the crowd below. Always one for the dramatics. "Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for the disturbance! But, what's a Mikaelson party without a little squabble?" He pulls out a silver dagger and stabs Kol in the heart with it. Rebekah, who's watching from the stairs with me, smiles as I cringe.
Poor, Kol.
I look up at them with disappointment and they look back with guilt as I quickly go down the stairs and go to my room, locking myself in.
"Elizabeth..." Elijah knocks on the door gently.
"One day. I asked for one day without fighting! One day to set everything aside until tomorrow! And what respect do I get!? Kol being daggered in the middle of our party!" I shout from inside.
I hear Niklaus whisper to Elijah. "Let me handle this. Go deal with our siblings, and keep our guests happy." Suddenly, I hear a cracking sound and the door opens.
Crossing my arms I turn away and sit on my bed. "You owe me a new door."
Niklaus sighs. "I will fix the door, but I want to fix this problem first." He came to stand in front of me. "Lizzie, I-"
"I asked for just one night of peace and you couldn't respect me enough to grant me it."
"I do respect you. I got carried away, and I'm sorry. I'm not sorry for daggering Kol. I'm only sorry for hurting you." He kneels down so he can see my face. "Lizzie, you are one of the only people I can truly trust. My best friend. I would never intentionally hurt you. Please, forgive me? Come back out. I promise to keep peace for the rest of the night or you can dagger me." I smile and he chuckle and grins. "There it is! I knew my pain would make you smile."
I giggle and we both stand. "I hate that I can't stay mad at you, Nikki."
He takes my hand and wraps it around his arm. "Oh, but I love it. Gets me out of a witchy migraine." Laughing we return to the party.
Elijah immediately appears at my side when we arrived. "Elizabeth-"
I hold up my hand silencing him. "I'm alright, Elijah."
He sighs in relief and picks up my hand, kissing it. Niklaus rolls his eyes. "All is right in the world once again. Now, brother, do what you planned. Eyes are starting to target our beautiful Lizzie."
I look at them confused as Elijah's crooked smile forms and he gets the attention of the crowd. "My I have your attention please? Standing before me, is the most beautiful woman I have ever met. She has placed a spell on me, and took complete control of my heart. She is the love of my life and I wish for it to continue forever." He gets down on one knee and my hands cover my mouth in shock. He pulls out a box and opens it to reveal a beautiful ring.
"Elizabeth Victoria Gerard, will you do me the great honor, of becoming my wife?"
Tears of joy stream down my face as I nod. "Yes. Yes!" Everyone applauded as he places the ring on my finger and picks me up twirling me around. His lips capture mine and at this moment I am filled with ultimate bliss.
