Chapter 7

Josh dropped me off and helped me unload everything. "Ok, well I guess ill see you tomorrow to help?" he said, but it came out as a question. "Yes, see you tomorrow". I waved him off and he climbed in to his car. I stood at the doorway and watched until I couldn't see his headlights. I trudged up the stairs and grabbed a pair of pjs from my suitcase. I went straight to the shower and turned the water on really hot. I let it steam up, and then I hopped in. After the long and soothing shower, I changed into my navy blue and white polka-dot underwear and my extra long shirt that I had decorated myself with my name written sideways and paint splatters all over it. I brushed my teeth and put my hair up in a messy bun. I decided to unpack up all of my things and finally get settled in.

After I finished organizing all of my things, I crawled into my big king sized bed and just sat there. It was really dark here. In California the city lights would be bright enough to stream through the window, but here it was eerily dark. Pitch black. I suddenly got scared of being alone in this big house, but I remembered that im in the middle of nowhere and no one could get me. A lump formed in my throat, as I thought this. Im all alone. There was no one here to snuggle with me, no one here to whisper in my ear loving things, no one here to comfort me when I was scared, no one to love me the way he did. I cried, and cried all night. I cried, like ive never cried before. Even though I knew that this was not the first or last night that I would cry myself to sleep.

Beep! Beep! Beep! My eyes shot open and I jostled around the bed. I looked to the right of me and saw what was making the beeping noises. My alarm clock. I quickly looked for the right button to turn it off and finally found a little switch on the side of it that said OFF. I flipped it and it magically stopped beeping. Looking at the clock it read 6:30 a.m. I forgot that I turned on the alarm last night. I got up from the comfortable bed and padded over to the bathroom. I poked my eyes open and looked in the mirror. As I looked the night before, my hair was a knotted mess, my eyes were red and puffy, and sadly my bloodshot eyes were still cold and emotionless. I grabbed my face wash from the mirror cabinet and washed my face. I also brushed my teeth and tried, but failed, to brush my hair, so I put it up in a high pony tail. Quickly changing into my sports bra and jogging shorts, I jogged downstairs and grabbed water from the fridge. My running shoes were already at the front door so I got my wallet and slipped on my shoes. It was chilly outside, but I didn't mind it, in fact it was refreshing. I started jogging out slow, looking at my surroundings, enjoying the sounds of nature and the beautiful scenery. Then as I headed toward the town, I started jogging faster till I was running, then sprinting across the dirt pathways and gravel roads. The wind was blowing against my face causing my eyes to tear, but my legs were kicked with a newfound adrenaline. Things were blurring around me but I didn't care, I looked straight ahead and kept sprinting. All I was thinking about was the sound of my feet, stomping against the ground, pushing the ground until all the adrenaline was replaced with tiredness. I slowed down and started jogging again. Running like that, it made me forgot all my troubles, forget everything. I turned back around and jogged to town. I looked around and realized I went all the way uptown where Josh and I went to get the supplies. I shook my head and kept jogging. I can keep running forever, but I can't run away from my problems, even for a moment.

When I got to town I noticed that some people were already up and around the town. Everyone waved at me and said "Hi Danica" and "Welcome back Danica" I said hi to everyone there as I walked toward the diner. I walked in and everyone said good morning. I sat on a stool and Shirley came over to me. "Hey darlin', how are you doin? What can I getchya?" "Morning Shirley ill have an apple juice and some chocolate chip pancakes with a side of toast please" I said. "Ok coming up. How could you eat so much when you look so skinny?" she said smiling. I chuckled," Running Shirley and a high metabolism". She laughed and went to the window of the kitchen and started shouting out orders. I swirled on my seat and looked at everything. The diner had red stools and matching red upholstered booth seats. The counter tops were a dark wood, and the walls had red, black and white stripes that went in different directions. In front of the stool counter was a little area were the waiters could get around taking orders. On the middle of the wall was a little window where the waiters give the orders to the cooks. And on either side of the wall were doors to enter the kitchen. It had a homey feeling to it, especially when the waiters are so nice. "Here you go honey, fresh off the pan" said Shirley, giving me a plate stacked with steamy chocolate chip pancakes and another plate with buttery toast and a glass of apple juice. I thanked her and dove in. The food was delicious, just as I remembered when I was younger. I finished the food fast and paid Shirley. I walked out of the diner and bumped into Auntie Maggie. "Oh! Sorry, Danica! Hey honey! You didn't come over yesterday I was a little worried, what happened?" she said while giving me a hug. "Hi Auntie Maggie, I'm sorry, Josh and I went out to get all the stuff for my house and then we got a bite to eat, I guess I forgot about it" I said sheepishly. She raised her eyebrows, "So, you and Josh are getting along?" "Yea, he's really nice and he's helped me out a lot". She gave me a look and said," Its ok, but you have to come to the big party on Friday" "Friday? Why what's going on?" "Were celebrating your coming back of course!" she said with a big smile on her face. 'Oh, no Auntie, you don't have to throw a party for me" "Nonsense! We haven't had a new neighbor since Josh, and were going to have a party, don't worry about it all of us love a good barbeque." She said in a authorities voice, but with amused eyes. I sighed in defeat. "Ok Auntie ill go." "Good, I love you hunny, but I gotta go, see you later" she said, and with one last hug walked over to her car. I shook my head. Good old Auntie.

I heaved my shoes to the closet and slipped off my clothes from my sweaty body. Grabbing a towel and a pair of clothes, I walked to the shower and put it on to a cold temperature, then jumped in. It was really cold! I turned it hotter and instantly relaxed as my body reacted to the soothing water. After I took a shower I put on the clothes that I grabbed which consisted of a light pair of skinny jeans and a blue and red flannel shirt. I blow dried my hair, leaving my wavy locks cascading down my back like a water fall. I tried to smile into the mirror, but it came out as a grimace. I rolled my eyes and walked down stairs. I decided to check my phone, since I hadn't seen it in a couple of days. I looked around my bag and finally found it. I opened it and turned it on. As soon as I did it went in a frenzy of vibrations and rings. I jumped and threw it on the couch. It was still ringing like crazy, but I grabbed it and waited for it to stop. When it stopped I looked at my screen. 77 MISSED CALLS AND 68 TEXT MESSAGES!!! Oh my gosh! I didn't think that after only a day or two I would get that much messages! I looked through the calls and of course most of them were from my parents. Some were from my friends, my job, and some relatives. I looked through the texts and saw that they were from again my parents, but most were from my friends. They said things like "Where are you!?" and "I'm sorry about what happened! I'm going to miss him 2". My parents were texting me stuff like, "Where are you!?" and "Atwood! Are you crazy! Come home right now!" and "Honey, I know your devastated about what happened, but please call us back, were worried about you". I sighed and called my mom. She answered on the first ring. "Danica! Oh Danica! I was worried sick! Are you ok? What are you doing? Come home!" she said quickly. It sounded like she was crying. "Mom! I'm ok! I'm here in Atwood, at our old house, im fine. Look, I needed a change mom, I can't live there, everything reminds me of him, and I would have gone mad! So I wanted to get a whole new atmosphere and I moved here. Things are going great mom, im fixing up the house and everyone remembers me, and they don't know anything about... my past." I said with a teary voice. I heard her give a long sigh, "Ok, baby I know I cant make decisions for you, you're a grown women, but I wanted to be there with you, to help you and..... For the baby" she said but it came out at a whisper at the end. "Its ok mom, you can come over whenever you want, and I have Auntie Maggie and everyone else to help me." I said. "Margret? Oh! Tell her I said hi, I haven't seen her since we moved." She said. "Ok I will. I love you mom", "Love you too honey bye!" she hung up. "Bye"
