Chapter 8

The door bell rang and I got up to get it. "Mornin' Danica", Josh said. He was smiling. Like always. His face was bright and shiny; his sky blue eyes were shockingly bright. He was wearing a white wife beater and low rise jeans, which I hate to admit, outlined his body perfectly. "Good Morning Josh, come in" I said and walked him in. He cleaned his scruffy vans on the welcome mat and strolled in. I sat down on the couch and Josh sat on the loveseat. "Have you eaten breakfast yet? I wanted to start the house as soon as possible", he looked excited, and for some reason, I was too. "Yea, I ate at the diner awhile ago. I was thinking we could start the deck first".

My stomach was fluttering from his intense stare. He was just smiling there, looking at me, but my heart started beating rapidly. I told myself that it was the excitement about my move and the remolding, but something in the back of my mind was bothering me. I grabbed a cushion from the couch, and started picking on the hem.

"Ya, I was thinking that too. I suggest wearing something a little more I don't know.... old or not fashionable? It gets pretty hot when you're out there, even if its fall" he chuckled. I looked at what I was wearing and smiled a little. "Okay, Ill go change and you set up". He got up and went to the back of the house. I climbed upstairs and looked through my drawers. Finally deciding on a pair of shorts that reached mid thigh, and an old purple tank-top. I also got my black and white vans. I jogged downstairs. My hand was grabbing the handle, when I stopped and looked outside. Josh was there, lifting up wood boards from the side of the house and moving it closer to were the deck would be. His muscles flexed from the weight and somehow I was mesmerized. I stared at him moving the wood until he looked up. I jumped back and quickly opened the door. "I changed" I sang, trying to act normal, and wondering if he saw me staring. The crisp air of fall wrapped around my body and the sun gave me warm tingles. "Good, much better for work. Ok what I want you to do is-" "Ya, Ya get some boards and put them in the pile", I started grabbing a bunch of boards and mimicked what he was doing. He smiled and shook his head. After awhile all of the boards were moved. He passed me a hammer, and some nails. "Ok were going to place the boards were I marked them, ok?" I looked to the ground and noticed that he marked some X's with red spray paint. "Ok, but when did you mark this?" I asked amused. "When you were upstairs, I had some spray paint in the truck" he said simply. I shrugged my shoulders and started placing the boards on the markings, then nailing them down to the spot. We were diligently working silent for a while, then Josh started talking. "Are you going to your party Friday?" he said, then kind of shook his head and laughed. I smiled a little. "Why yes, I am going to my party on Friday, are you going?" "Ya! Everyone's going, it's like the first party since... well forever" he chuckled. "Who are you going with?" I asked curious. I haven't seen him with a girl, and I'm sure that he has a lot of them chasing after them. He looked at me with questioning eyes. "No one, I don't like the girls here". "Why?" I said really curious now. "The girls here are to... easy, fake, they try to hard, and there big followers. I want someone different, you know someone real" as he said this working stopped. He was staring at me deeply. Both of our breathing was shallow. His eyes shone with passion and I couldn't think. Everything was fuzzy. I was chanting over and over Do Not Give In, What Would He Think, before, but then the voice was slowly turning into a whisper, until I couldn't hear it anymore. He was slowly moving closer to me till there was about an inch of air left between our faces. "Someone like you" he whispered. His cool breath fanned my face. It sent shivers down my spine. I completely forgot about everything. What we were doing, what we were talking about, why I was here, but it was the only time I felt peaceful, and happy. He leaned in more and then there was a loud noise. Beep! Beep! We jumped about 10ft in the air. I looked to the side of the house and saw Adam smirking from behind his humongous, and I mean humongous, black Range Rover. He honked his horn twice more and jumped out of the car. "Hey kiddies, looks like you two are doing just fine here, I don't know why you called me. Josh?" he said still smirking and looking between us with humorous eyes. I got up angrily and walked right past Josh, right past Adam, and right past his ridiculously huge truck. Tears pooled my eyes as I stomped to the front of my house. I heard footsteps behind me and then Josh saying,"Danica, wait! I'm sorry!" I didn't look behind me; instead I kept going faster until I was running down the trail, into town. I ran until I reached the swing set that held so many memories. I sat down and caught my breath. It was hard breathing when the sobs kept trying to force themselves out of my throat. Then realization hit of what I was about to do at the house and I cried. Heavy sobs finally erupted, and tears leaked my face like a broken faucet. Snot was searing down my nose, mixing in with my salty tears, but I didn't care. I sent a silent prayer to... him, apologizing. Then I screamed at the sky, "I'm sorry Andrew! I'm sorry! I miss you Andrew! Why did you have to leave me! This didn't have to happen Andrew! I Love You! I always will!" my voice waivered at the end and I collapsed onto the ground clutching my sides and sobbed loudly to the grass. A pair of strong arms held onto me, warming me in a tight embrace and brushing hair from my face. "Its going to be ok" he said.
