-Ashton-

I'm pretty much isolated from the outside world, of course I have my phone and can keep in contact with my friends online, but it wasn't the same as going out for lunch with friends in person. Sometimes I wish of going to a public school, but I didn't want to wake up at 5 am just to catch a bus. His mom was his teacher, while his stepdad had a stay at home job. Sometimes he went to meetings about his job, one time he even had to go out of state for one. But I'm still clueless on what the man does, and my mother refuses to tell me. I just wanted to know, how am I supposed to trust him when I don't even know what he does for a career. He made it even more suspicious when he was in basement all the time, I used to be able to play drums in the basement but he completely took over it, with hell knows what.

I let out an annoyed sigh, working on some worksheet with random equations, my mom expected me to be done with the sheet in an hour, but when it came to math- well it just doesn't make sense to me. Honestly, I hated that the world needed to include letters into a math problem, just tell me what x equals and let me get on with my life. Loud footsteps were heard as the basement door creaked and unlocked, my stepdad strolling into the kitchen. He was probably getting lunch but as he glanced over at me, mainly to see what I was doing, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. He observed me, every movement I made, how fast I was breathing. I could practically see the gears in his head moving to make mental notes about me.

"What are you working on?" He asked, trying to make small talk. I agreed with my mom to give him a chance. But it was hard, I had this overwhelming sense of dread around him, he was creepy in general.

"Some equations," I replied, my pencil gliding across the paper, writing various numbers, drawing two arrows going over the parentheses to distribute the 2, multiplying it with 6x and 4. But I guess I pressed too hard, for the tip of the pencil broke, causing me to let out another stressed sigh. He noticed this of course, he was watching every single thing I did. Why wouldn't he notice? He moved closer to me, looking down at the paper and then quickly back at me.

"I'm quite good at these, I could help you." He smiled, and it made me feel guilty as to why I couldn't try harder to like him. I bit my lip, nodding slowly. Making it seem as if I was unsure of my decision, and I mean I was. But the grin on his face was enough to tell me that I did something right. "I'm going to run upstairs and grab a few pencils." He quickly jogged over to the stairs, practically running up them to get the pencils. The need was desperate for him, maybe he was scared I was going to change my mind. Just as soon, he was running down the stairs and pulling a chair next to me. I could hear him panting and I resisted the urge to chuckle.

"Okay, so you already got the first 3 questions done, have you tried 4 yet?" He asked, setting up a few horizontal and vertical lines, resetting up the equation so it was easier to read. "5(2x + 3) = 3(2x + 3). You distribute on both sides, leaving you with what?" He asked.

"10x + 15 = 6x + 9. Right?" I asked, unsure of my answer and he nodded in approval, writing down what I had said underneath the previous set up equation. He opened his lips to speak again, probably to advise me on what the next step was, but his watch began beeping. At first it scared me, but I calmed down when I realized it wasn't a weapon of destruction. A loud sigh left his lips, I could tell the sign was that of importance. He glanced towards to the basement door but then back at me. Looking at my face to see what emotions were registering in my mind. I simply had my lips pressed into a line, and my eyes staring into his own dark brown ones. "Go, that seems important." I stated, and who was I to keep the man from his work. Sure, I kind of do need help on my worksheet, but that's what the internet is for. But he shook his head.

"He can wait." He said and a confused expression made it's way onto my face, my stepdad noticing it on an instant but he didn't press further on the subject, instead going back to math problem at hand. "What do you do next?" He asked.

"You subtract 6x from both sides." I said, my curiosity was distracting me though. I just wanted to know what he did so desperately, and though I've asked him before, he jokes about the question while keeping it anonymous.

"Yes, see your so good at this," He praised, writing down the action of subtracting 6x from both sides. "That leaves us with w-.' he sighed glancing down at his ringing phone. The screen was flashing as a way to show importance, and the ringing sound was that of loud repetitive fast beeps. "I need to check on someo- something."

I nodded, watching him stand up and walk to the basement quickly. His feet running down the stairs, but to my surprise he hadn't locked the door. I stood up, leaving my pencil on the table as I turned the knob of the basement door slowly. Yes, I know I shouldn't be snooping but it's not fair to not know what my stepdad is doing. He could have a kidnapped a person for all I know. I carefully and quietly walked down the stairs, one of my eyes snapping closed when I heard the stair creak. I quickly hid under the stairs, seeing my stepdad look over, but another voice quickly stopped him from investigating any further. The voice seemed urgent, not in a scared way but as in a way of distracting my stepfather of my actions.

"I was helping my son with my homework but of course you had to bother me," my stepdad said, I could tell he was angry and it frightened me a bit. He wanted to bond with me so badly, I wish I knew why.

"Doctor Irwin, can I please be released from my wires. I need to walk around and stretch," a voice asked. It was a teenage boy's voice, well at least that's what it sounded like. Sadly from my hiding placing I could only see feet and ankles.

"Fine, but don't be too loud okay?" He said, and I knew he would be going back upstairs. He would notice I was gone, but I had my phone and I could easily just text him that I went outside. My stepdad's feet moved and he was back upstairs. Closing the door and locking it. I had forgotten about that, and I guess I was locked in here until he returns but I already knew that would be soon seeing as this was his second home. I crawled out from under the stairs and looked around. It was a laboratory, there were so many different machines, and binders filled with tons of notes and lab reports. There were cables along the walls, and a mini fridge for those longer than usual days. My head snapped to hear a small chuckle, and I was right. There was a blonde teenager, maybe a little older than me standing in the corner, watching me. My stepdad was keeping a damn teenage boy down here! This is what I was concerned about!

I had the urge to scream, faint, and cry all at once. Though that was impossible, at least I think it is. I walked closer to him.

"Hi, I'm Luke." He said calmly, whereas I was freaking out. He had perfect skin, slightly curly hair and crystal blue eyes. In other words, he was too beautiful for this world. "You must be Ashton, your father has told me lots about you. Says you're like him in a sense. He says that biotechnology is the only subject you don't get angry at."

"W-who are you?" I stuttered, and he laughed a little.

"I already told you, I'm Luke. You're funny Ash." He smiled and a blush rose to my cheeks.

"Um..thanks?" I mumbled quietly, I noticed the wires coming out of the back of his neck and it kind of freaked me out even more, but i needed to learn self control.

"He's coming back soon, you should hide so you can sneak back upstairs. I wouldn't want you to get in trouble." Luke stated, but I couldn't just leave a human being down here, had my stepdad kidnapped him?! What could that mean he would do to me.

"Luke, we need to get you out of here. It's not right- it's inhumane. No human being should be held captive like this. By the looks of this room- experimented on!" I exclaimed and moved closer to him, holding his hand which were surprisingly really cold, but other wise fit with mine easily and comfortably. His skin was so soft.

But what surprised me even further is that Luke just laughed at my words, looking down at me since he was much taller than I was. "Oh Ash, I simply cannot leave..as well as I am not human. I'm a cyborg- but I suppose I can take being human as a compliment." He smiled, and I stared at him. Feeling extremely dizzy as my vision faded to black and I fell unconscious. His arms catching me and holding me against him as I breathed quietly.

(1,682 words) I have so many different story drafts that I was like, why not publish one. I have nothing better to do since my parents disabled my phone.
