"Yo Maddox. Maddox! Bro wake up!" A girly voice rang in his ear. Maddox opened his eyes and there stood an ambiguous person with straight strawberry blonde hair covering an eye patch.
"Are you..." Maddox stuttered.
"Maxim! Or Maxim the Mad, as some call. Up, up! Gotta get to work! Big order today."
Maddox rolled his eyes to himself and tumbled out of bed and into a t-shirt and jeans.
Maxim peeked in the door again. "Hey hey! Can't wear that, too light. Need black. Hoodie and pants. Show less blood."
Blood? Maddox thought. What kind of guy is this anyways? Mad? Damn right, he's mad. Not mad, insane.
Maddox walked out to see Maxim standing away from the door, back to him with a loose black hoodie over his head and wearing black slacks.
As soon as Maddox closed his bunk door, Maxim appeared
directly behind him, unnatural blazing red and blue eyes glaring into his soul.
Maxim turned away and started walking out the door of the building.
"You come?" Maxim asked, turning around, face looking less threatening this time.
Maddox nodded, laughing to himself about Maxim's awkwardness.
"Here," Maxim said, making Maddox bump into him. "You'll need it. Trust me." He placed a sharp blade with a beautiful leather sheath into his hands and attempted a smile.
Outside of the building and into the sunlit city streets, Maxim walked hunched over. Maddox followed hesitantly and copied his motions.
Maxim stalked into a dark alleyway and pulled Maddox behind him.
"Mad, I'll grab him first and I'll hand him to you. Then you hold the knife against his throat and keep him scared and stiff. I come next with my gun and we'll get him. It'll be an easy mission." Maxim said, sounding intelligent this time.
"Question Maxim, are you... male or female?"
"Ha, you want the truth or you want my opinion?"
"...both?" Maddox answered.
"Well I'm a guy in a girl's body. A guy with girl parts down 'there'. Technically a girl. Anything else?"
"So you're a cross-dresser? And why do you talk so broken in the syndicate?"
"Well, it's kinda what keeps me my title and job. It's like my signature move. My 'thing', if I may. No one but you and Big man and Ferris know. Okay we can finish later, we have to go get this guy, seriously."
Maddox was nervous going into the shoddy apartment complex. It was trashy and looked like an abandoned love hotel.
Maxim stopped outside of room 223 and looked at Maddox and gave a curt nod.
In a flash, the weak looking, lanky blonde broke open the door and ran inside. Maddox followed, running off of pure adrenaline and saw Maxim holding the guy on the floor for me. He rushed over and held him up, knife pressed to his throat. Maxim, smiling like a maniac pulled out his gun and pointed, winking at the victim as he pulled the trigger. A boom so high sounding, it could almost not be heard, rang out and planted a bullet in the man's head, making him fall to the ground instantly. Maddox stepped back, throwing the man down. He covered his mouth in horror.
"Mad, this guy killed ten people from our syndicate, and five others from a rivaling syndicate. The police have been after him too. He deserved death."
"I-I've killed a man. I aided in a murder." Maddox stuttered out.
"Hey bro, don't worry. It's only business. Okay? I have to take this call right now."
"Yeah it's me. No, not tonight, I'm busy. You're lying! Well...yeah. So that's the only reason why? You know what, Yang, I'm done with you! You treat me like a piece of shit and accuse me of lying, and when I try to make it up to you, you find another reason to hit me. So... Yeah I'm done! Done with you. Leave me alone from now on!" Maxim slammed the phone down and threw it out the window, not looking back to see it shatter on the sidewalk below. He sat on the floor, arms crossed and holding back tears.
"S-sorry, Maddox. See this is the reason I can't stay true to my sexuality. That's why I have to cross dress. The other lesbian girls, I just can't stand them. I like straight girls with the mindset that they want to get married to a, and live in dreamy castle and have a beautiful romance with a strong, but ragtag boy as their prince.. I just want to be the one to protect them. I want to be a boy, Maddox. It's been my dream since I was little, and I had only first heard of the surgery. I joined the mafia in hope that I could easily fake my facade as a guy, heck I'm even in the male chapter of Rouxe. But it's not real. I can't please any girl like "that", and that's all they want. I don't have enough money."
Maddox listened to Maxim, smiling out of pity for the guy.
He was thinking about the phase where he was attracted to male celebrities, and even tried to kiss his best friend.
"Maxim, have you ever thought about dating a guy?"
"I thought up explained this to you, I don't want a prote--"
"No, I mean dating a guy, as a guy. Like a gay relationship."
"I guess that could work, but what guy in his right mind would date a girl that wanted to protect him, and be a guy, dress as a guy, and pretend that she's got different parts down there? It's a one in ten million chance that ill find someone."
"...What if I told you I was that one in the ten million? I mean, I've not even known you for a whole day, but Maxim, you're really attractive for a guy."
Maxim smiled at Maddox and gently took his hand in his and walked with him like that back to the base.
