"Your eyes were open, so was your heart. Just let me in and I'll show you how much you mean to me."

WINTER WAS TWENTY-TWO when she discovered her newfound abilities.

She deeply inhaled the burning smoke, it having no effect on her. Tears streamed down her face, the crackling sound of the flames and the screams made her regret everything that had ever happened in her life.

She didn't like herself. She didn't like life.

It was as if the events prior were planned by the devil himself.

"I'm sorry mom, dad, Devon." She sobbed, slowly kneeling to the ground. She had set the house ablaze on accident twenty minutes before.

The devil himself 'blessed' her with the power of destruction and the ability to kill.

She was a monster. She wasn't herself.

The year was 2013 and she remembered the day so vividly that she could still smell the flames of the burning wood and flesh that it sickened her.

It was reality now and she was now twenty-four wishing she was dead. She found out she could never age until she took the life of an innocent.

She took the life of three.

"We gotta go."

Steve's soft voice ran throughout her room.

Winter turned her head to face his crystal blue eyes. They held love and compassion and somehow, hope.

It was a miracle that she had found someone to love her for the monster she is.

"I'll be there in a minute. I just have to sort myself out."

She hadn't realized she was crying until Steve walked a little closer and wiped the tears away with the pad of his thumb and softly kissed her forehead.

"I love you."

"I love you too."
