Without looking at any of their expressions, I ducked into my tent.

"Oh, Rapunzel," I heard Merida say, then crying.

I immediately felt bad. Why did I feel the need to say that?

Suddenly, I heard the flap open and Hiccup came in.

"What do you want?" I growled.

"Why can't you be with Punzie?"

"I can't tell you," I whispered.

"You can tell me anything."

I looked up at him. "Not this."

"Why not?"

"Because I promised myself I wouldn't tell anyone and that I wouldn't even think about it, but that didn't work!"

"What are you talking about, Jack?"

"I'm immortal, okay!? I shouldn't even be here. The Man in the Moon brought me back to be a Guardian. I didn't tell anyone because I was lonely and I didn't want to have to leave. You guys are the best friends I've ever had. I don't even know why I did this. It's going to ruin me for eternity. I'm sorry."

He was silent. "I don't know what to say."

"Well now you understand. Go back to your tent."

He left.

Tears streamed down my face. I knew what I had to do now. It was inevitable.

I had to leave.
