The three of us stared after Rapunzel as she ducked into her tent. I stood there, looking, wondering, hoping that maybe she liked him after all.
No! I thought. Don't get your hopes up. You could never be with her, anyways.
"She's got the hots for you, man," Hiccup whispered into my ear before also going into his tent. Merida gave Rapunzel's tent one last look, glanced at me curiously, and opened her tent's flap.
I stood there for countless minutes, thinking.
Suddenly, Rapunzel's flap opened and Punzie poked her head out.
"Why are you still out here?" she asked quietly.
"Thinking," I answered.
"About what?" I didn't know what to say. Or what to think.
"Nothing," I said finally.
I opened my tent and went inside. I sat down with a sigh, wondering, always wondering if it could really be true. But even if it was, I was immortal and she wasn't. I couldn't do that to her. I couldn't do that to myself.
Tears formed in my eyes, and I buried myself in the blankets.
