Johnny's perspective
I couldn't concentrate on the piano lessons today. My mind was on an entirely different place. I'd always hit the wrong notes, but I didn't really care. The only thing on my mind right now was Ash. And I think that Miss Crawly noticed.
"That was really bad." She said with her raspy voice after I ones again hit the wrong note. "Is something wrong?" She asked and walked up beside me.
"No, miss Crawly. Nothing's wrong, I just... I can't focus."
"And why's that?" A picture of Ash immediately showed up inside my brain. Today's Ash's birthday. I scratched my neck and avoided Miss Crawlys stare.
"It's... A girl..."
"A girl, uh?" Miss Crawly said with a smile. "This reminds me of when I was in your age. I was quit the player when I was younger." She laughed a bit, causing me to smile.
"Do you have any advice on what I could give her? It's her birthday today." I asked. The iguana scratched her jaw while thinking.
"When I was younger would boys give me gifts. Something sweet."
When I was leaving the theater was Miss Crawlys words echoing inside my head. A gift? I'm not good at this. What do girls like? Or rather, what would Ash like?
I was so in to my thoughts, that I didn't see the mouse that was in front of me. I almost walked over him when a voice dragged me out of my thoughts.
"Hey, watch it!" A familiar voice yelled. I quickly moved away from the mouse.
"Sorry Mike!" I said to the mouse in red suit. He gave me a dirty look, and brushed of some invisible dust from his shoulders.
"You better watch out, gorilla. You don't wanna mess with me." He said. Or more like threatened.
"I'm sorry." I said again. As I watched Mike did an idea form in my head. Mike have a girlfriend, I know that from everytime he's bragged about her. So maybe he can help me out?
"Hey, Mike..."
"What do you want?"
"Well, there's a girl and I really want to give her a gift. Do you know what girls like?" Mike snorted at me.
"You're asking the right guy for advice. I'm quit the womanizer." He said with a confident smirk. "If you want to impress a girl, then give her something expensive. Every woman loves money." Then he walked away, leaving me on the street.
How am I suppose to make money?
A hour later could music be heard throughout the street. It was the kind of music that you couldn't help but love. It was the kind of music that made people turn their heads. It was the kind of music that would get me some cash.
After I met Mike did I run back to the theater. I asked Miss Crawly for a favor, and some moments later stood the piano on the street. A hat was lying upside down beside the piano. I sat down, and started to play. My fingers danced over the piano, and this time I was sure I didn't make any mistake. I started to sing. My voice and the piano was in perfect harmony. Miss Crawly and Mr. Moon would have been proud. Animals who walked by stopped when they heard my music. Some of them clapped along, others started dancing and some animals even dropped a penny or two in the hat that was laying beside me.
It didn't take long before a entire crowd had gathered around me and the piano. I played until my fingers started to hurt. I didn't stop until my voice was hoarse, and then I just couldn't sing anymore. All the animals that had gathered around me gave me a big applaud when the music stopped. I smiled against them and bowed. One after one did they all drift away, and I picket up the now heavy hat. I quickly counted the money, and my smile got even wider.
With all this money can I buy... A beautiful necklace to her or maybe... No. That's not enough. She deserves more, and beside: Ash isn't like any other girl. She's not into make-up or expensive things. But I know one thing that she likes. The one thing that brought us two together.
Music.
