Ash's perspective

I stuffed my mouth full with popcorn and didn't even care about the mess I was making on my coach. Popcorn flew everywhere, somewhere on the couch while other were on the floor. Yep. This is how I celebrate my birthday. Alone, eating and watching television.

I've never figured out what's so "amazing" about birthdays. It's only the day when you were born. Nothing else.

My eyes were glued to the screen of the television. It was a news report about a bunny cop finding a bunch of missing animals. I couldn't help but think of a certain gorilla when I saw the cops on television.

I know that Johnnys dad is in prison. He had told me all about it a while ago. About how his dad wanted him to become a criminal, about how his dad at first didn't approve of his dream of becoming a singer. I'm so glad that they've made up now. It hurts to even think about how sad Johnny would be otherwise. He doesn't deserve that. No one does.

A sound caused my head to rise. I reached for the tv remote and turned it off, but the sound didn't stop. What's that sound? It sounds like... Music.

I put the bowl with popcorn away as I stood up from the couch. I started to walk against the window and as I came closer did the music get louder and louder. The music was slow and swimmingly, almost as if the notes were children that was playing with each other. It was breathtaking.

I looked through the window and the first thing I saw was a massive sign. The word were in bright blue and they said: "Happy birtday!" Johnny was standing beside it with a big smile on his lips. He was playing a very similar song on a piano that stood on the street. I opened up the window and smiled against him. What is he doing?

"Happy birthday Ash!" He yelled from down the street. I couldn't stop the laugh that escaped my lips.

"Did you do this for me?"

"Yup. I even got a present for you." He smiled against me. Johnny stopped playing in order to take something out of his pocket. Then he held it up for me too see. "It's two tickets to a theater. I's today. You wanna go? With me?" This... Is amazing.

"Yes. Let's go to that theater! Sounds fun." I said. His smile got even wider.

"It's a date then!" Johnny exclaimed. I laughed again at how happy he seemed over that I said yes. He acts like it's a gift, a privilegie, to go on a date with me. Lance never acted like that. He always took me for granted. But Johnny's not like that. He's nothing like Lance. Except for one thing...

"Johnny, you do know that you spelled 'birthday' wrong?" I said and glanced at the massive sign beside him.

I think I'm really gonna enjoy my birhday.

***

I'm not completely satisfied with this part. But this was the best I could come up with. Sorry.

Cred to you who noticed my Zootopia hint. Applaus from me.
