XXIII. Contract

Angelo Tallerico

A few weeks and I was a top gangster by them. Along with an Al Camino, Range Rover jeep, Ferrari and a Bugatti. I had also gotten with Zoe. Remember her? Damien's sister. Well let me take it back a little.

The double date that Damien had forced me to was a disaster. Plain and simple. Imagine my surprise when I walked into La Bistros with Damien waiting at our table. Then Damien smiles widely and nods forward, "There are our girls."

I saw Leah first, she was pretty, but I was not ready for the hot Hispanic girl in a red number next to her. It was the girl from the beach! Perhaps it was a mistake but then

Damien said proudly, "Angelo, this is Leah. And Zoe is your date."

I blinked otherwise I might have goggled. "Pardon me, but I think I must have heard something crazy in my ear."

Damien looked at me oddly, "What's the matter with you?"

"Salvadoré, a word please," I said through my teeth and threw a smile toward our dates,

"Ladies, please give us a moment."

"What's going on, Angelo?"

I grabbed him by his tie, "Outside buddy. You and me." When we were out of our dates' sight I turned on him. "You little bastard! Why didn't you tell me it was her?"

"Huh?"

"You know what I mean!" I whispered furiously. "You said you were setting me up with Zoe!"

"That is Zoe," he said slowly.

"Except I didn't know she was your sister." I glared at him. "I ought to beat you to a pile of dumpling dust! I was with that girl on Saturday and you didn't say a word to me."

"You didn't ask," he shrugged, completely unrepentant.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "You did this on purpose!"

"Duh!" Damien snorted and rolled his eyes.

"And the guys were all in on this too!" Christ was I a sucker or what. No wonder they all wouldn't go, because Zoe was Damien's sister. "You played me!"

"Well if you knew you were going on a double date with me and my sister, would you go?"

"Of course not!"

"There you go," he smiled. "Just smile through it and we'll be done before you know it."

"And remind me to pick up the ashes of my pride and dignity from the gutter where I threw them." I said sadly.
