       BLIND VEIL

━━━━━━━━━━━

IT HAD BEEN TWO DAYS since Jinny had thrown Finn into detainment, an act that Clarke had surprisingly supported. The issue was then passed onto Abby and the Council to decide his fate. Jinny sighed as the evening rays from the sun penetrated the clouds in the sky, searing the thin veil of water vapour in a myriad of burnt golden hues. She was leaning on top of the workshop bench with her face on her arms as she watched a flock of birds fly by in the distance through the window. Wick had his feet up on the table opposite her, reading a beat up textbook on Statistics & Dynamics. Meanwhile, Raven was messing around with the resonator and static noise erupted from every frequency she was dialling.

"If you could have one wish in the entire world, what would you wish for?" Jinny asked in a bored manner.

"I'd wish for more wishes," Wick answered with his added trademark, "Pfft," as usual.

"I'd wish for a big stick to shut people up with," Raven told them.

"I think that's called a spear, Raven," Jinny deadpanned.

"What about you, then?" Wick pointed a marker over to her.

"I want a never ending supply of food and chocolate."

"Hey," Raven called sharply. "Don't you think this sounds familiar?" She turned up the volume on the resonator and Jinny slid down the work bench to listen in.

"Sounds like the interference Monty heard on the—" Jinny stopped short, her eyes growing wide as she looked back up to Raven.

"—black box from the Exodus ship," the girl finished for her. "Mount Weather is jamming us too. It's on all the frequencies. Long range communications is screwed and the range for our walkies suck because of this."

"Dude." Jinny pushed herself up onto an elbow. "Those bastards."

"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" Raven raised her eyebrows.

"Time to make things go boom?" Jinny smirked widely as they exchanged a conspiratorial look with one another.

"You two are scaring the crap out of me," Wick commented while eyeing them warily.

There was a knock on the door and a familiar voice cleared his throat from the threshold. Jinny turned around to find Bellamy standing there with his hand hovering in the air, his eyes locking onto hers immediately. "Mind if I borrow her?" he asked.

Raven and Wick started making kissy faces at them as Jinny slid off the stool and walked towards the door. As soon as she was within reach, Bellamy wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her away with a small smirk adorning his features.

"Hey, stranger," he greeted teasingly. "I haven't seen you the entire day."

"Yeah, Byrne totally hates me," she told him. "Thinks I'm trying to usurp her position, but why would I do that when the Commander title is up for grabs?"

He chuckled as if he was completely expecting her answer. "Well, I don't know about you but I'm starving. How 'bout we find something to eat, huh?"

"Sounds good to me." She shrugged and he took his arm off her shoulders to intertwine their fingers together instead.

They made their way towards the temporary mess area set outside the station, while the hall inside was still being cleaned up. It had sustained a substantial amount of damage during the crash landing and the mechanics hadn't gotten around to repairing the place yet. A few bulbs were strung up above the makeshift tables, offering to shed additional light alongside the glow from the station's exterior. Almost everyone had already gathered around and more furniture had to be created from crates and containers lying around the wreckage.
