Adjusting

When Beth walked into her kitchen she was surprised when she saw Puck. She knew he would be there but it was weird.

"Hey. Your mom is at work. Get ready for school." Puck said like a good father.

"Can I ask you a question?" She asked, totally ignoring what he had just said and taking a seat in a bar stool on the other end of the counted.

"Yeah, whatever." He said, turning around to talk with his daughter.

"What about, my other father?" She asked.

"He...uh, well... I don't really know. Your mother had replaced me with him. Now go get dressed." Puck said at a loss for words.

Beth walked back to her room, tied a black bandana in her purple hair, put on a Rolling Stones t shirt, black leather jacket, skin tight, black leggings, boots with chains, buckles, and zippered and had really dark make up on. When she emerged from her room Puck look at her like she was a zombie.

"Can we talk about your clothes?" He asked.

"Yeah, what about 'em?" She asked sitting back down at the bar stool.

"Well, I know I'm new at the whole "father thing" but, here I'll just say it, I don't like the way you dress." He said.

"Well, it's what I used to keep everyone out." Beth said. To her she had never explained this before. It was new and weird but she liked it.

"What?" He asked. He couldn't wrap his head around it.

"Well, my mother told me my father left me. I didn't want him to come back one day and hurt me. So when I was eleven I decided I was going to dress like this. If people didn't like the way I looked, maybe they would stay away from me." Beth said blankly.

"Ok, wow. Well you know I'm not here to hurt you. So how about changing your clothes." He said.

"I don't know anything about you." She said.

"What?" Puck asked, appalled.

"I still can't be sure if your here to stay. I will change my whole look once I'm certain." Beth said. With that she got up and left for school. Puck wanted to prove to his daughter that he would always be there for her.
