"Okay, keep pressure on it. The doctor's on her way. And does anyone know where Dr. Hilyard is?" Melissa called when I followed Scott into the hospital, our hands intertwined. "Oh, thank God. I'm starving. Thank you for bringing me dinner." Melissa breathed out. "Is everything okay?" I asked, looking around the overfilled hospital. "Except for half the accident victims in a ten car pile-up being rerouted here from downtown, and the E.R. attending not answering any of his pages, yeah, I'm okay." She smiled at me, obviously exhausted.
"What does not answering pages mean?" Scott asked, giving my hand a squeeze. "It means that nobody can find him, so now we have to wait for the on call to get here." Melissa sighed. "Miss." Someone spoke from behind us so all three of us turned our attention to the lady behind Scott and I. "Yes?" Melissa asked with a kind smile. "Excuse me, can please have something for the pain?" The lady asked, pulling her face together in pain. "Okay, I'm sorry. I know. But, actually, giving you something could complicate things, so we really just need to wait for the doctors. Okay?" Melissa spoke softly so the lady nodded before sitting back down.
"Okay. How much longer on Dr. Hilyard?" Melissa asked the Receptionist. "Ten minutes." She answered. Melissa nodded and Scott let go of my hand and sat down next to the lady.
"Uh, you know, I think that I read online that sometimes human contact can help with pain." He whispered to the woman as I listened to him comforting the woman. He put his hand on hers before taking some of the pain off her. Her face softened and her whole body visibly relaxed, making me feel very proud of Scott.
"Someone... Someone help me! I need help!" I spun around to see Ethan run in through the doors with Danny clinging onto him. "Oh my god." I whispered whilst Scott shot off his chairm
"Okay, gentle, gentle, gentle!" Melissa ordered whilst we sat Danny on one of the hospital chairs. "What did you do to him?" I hissed at Ethan. "Nothing. He said he was having chest pains and trouble breathing, but it... it just kept getting worse." He defended himself and he looked genuine so my features softened. "This is not good. How much longer on Dr. Hilyard? His larynx has shifted to the side. I think it's a tension pneumothorax." Melissa spoke in medical terms so I had no clue what she was talking about. Suddenly Danny three up all over the place. "Mistletoe." Scott and I whsipered.
"Can you three please go back to the waiting room?" Melissa asked as we brought Danny into a separate room for treatment. "Where are the nurses and the doctors? Where is everyone?" Ethan asked, without moving.
"It's a full house tonight. They're tending to other patients." Melissa explained to the worried boy. "Okay, well, mom, how can we help?" Scott asked, pulling me closer so his hand was resting on my waistline. I smiled to myself when I felt the butterflies in my stomach. "Honey, you can't. His lung is collapsed. His heart is being pushed against his chest cavity, so..." Melissa explained.
"He's gonna die, isn't he?" I asked, looking at my old best friend. "No. No, he's not. Scott, you grab the tape. You grab those scissors and cut his shirt open. Okay." Ethan cut Danny's shirt open whilst Scott grabbed Tape. "Mom, he's not breathing." Scott breathed out and I felt my heart drop. Melissa pulled out a massive syringe before stabbing it into Danny's shoulder. I yelped and hid my face in Scott's shoulder.
Finally his breathing became normal and we all stared at Melissa. "What?" She asked, looking at Ethan, Scott and me. "That was awesome." Scott breathed out and his mum chuckled embarrassingly. "It was no problem, you know? I mean, it wasn't a big deal." She was obviously flattered.
Melissa eventually kicked us out and whilst Scott and I walked down the steps outside the Hospital Ethan caught up to us. "I know you're not gonna believe me, but I didn't do anything." He raised his hands in defense but Scott shook his head. "All I know is that the minute that you got here, you went right for Danny, and your brother went for Lydia." He stated. "We're not gonna hurt him." Ethan promised so I crocked my eyebrows, "Why should we believe you?" I asked.
