I moved to the end of my sewing table and grabbed the scalloped lace from its spool, it would add just the right detail to the neckline while providing me with extra coverage. The fabric was a soft blush and apricot with gold detailing on the bodice. It had taken me a week to get it all ready but now with this last detail it would be finished, I pinned the lace in place and stitched it in place. I clipped any threads that threatened to ruin my masterpiece and laid it gently in the garment bag and hung it in my closet, I would bring it to school with me the following morning to keep in my locker. I heard a knock on my door and quickly ripped down the pictures of Adrien that hung around my room, I had finally had the sense to put a login screen on my desktop that had nothing to do with Adrien.
"Come in!" I flung myself onto my chaise like I hadn't been panicking for the last few hours. Today was the first day of rehearsals and I was so nervous. I had acted when I was younger but I stopped when I realized I hated being in the spotlight, literally.
"Hey Marinette." Blonde hair poked above the hatch to my room followed by the green eyes I always found myself getting lost in.
"Hey A-Adrien." I couldn't believe he was in my room again, the first time had been when we were training for the gaming tournament, he had been as nervous as me, though for totally different reasons.
"Okay where do you want to start?" he was walking about my room looking at the various pictures and posters that hung on my walls, I was glad I had the sense to remove the pictures of him. He stopped at the poster of Jagged Stone, the picture was the album cover I designed for him and it was personally autographed for me.
"So cool. Do you talk to him?" Adrien looked at me over his shoulder, his eyes glimmering.
"We talk occasionally, mostly he asks me for fashion advice, apparently his stylist doesn't get his look." I giggled at the time when he had called me to ask if I could replace her, when I said no he then asked me if he should wear a purple crocodile skin jacket with his leopard print pants or crushed velvet purple pants.
"Its so cool that you know a famous person." I giggled again.
"I know two, actually." He cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. "I know you too." I decided not to mention that Chat Noir swung by from time to time, I didn't want him to get the wrong idea.
"Yeah let's get started." A small blush spread on his cheeks, I could tell that I had made him nervous, which was a change for once. "But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.-"
"Do you think we should modernize it? Not many kids know what Shakespeare meant."
"And ruin such a fantastic writer's work?"
"Think of it as creating your own story."
"I guess we can give it a try, I'll go home and write my lines if you do the same. Then next time we can rehearse those instead but I think we should go over the lines as is now, that way we can decide which we like better. How does that sound?"
"I like that idea."
"Anyways. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief, that thou, her maid, art far more fair than she. Be not her maid since she is envious. Her vestal livery is but sick and green, and none but fools do wear it. Cast it off! It is my lady. Oh, it is my love. Oh, that she knew she were! She speaks, yet she says nothing. What of that? Her eye discourses. I will answer it.— I am too bold. 'Tis not to me she speaks. Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, Having some business, do entreat her eyes. To twinkle in their spheres till they return. What if her eyes were there, they in her head? The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars. As daylight doth a lamp. Her eye in heaven. Would through the airy region stream so bright. That birds would sing and think it were not night. See how she leans her cheek upon her hand. Oh, that I were a glove upon that hand. That I might touch that cheek!"
He paused and ran a hesitant hand through his wavy blonde hair, glancing up through the window. I watched as his Adam apple bob in his throat, he seemed nervous to me.
"I think I may have something more modern, tell me how you like it?"
"Of course, take it away!" I shouted, pumping my fist into the air as Adrien laughed at my enthusiasm.
"Arise, fair Marinette, and kill the envious Chloe. Who is sickened that you are more fair than she." I giggled and he held a finger over his lips to silence me. "Be not her victim any longer, only a fool would do that. Oh, it is my love. Oh I wish she knew the way my heart flutters at the mention of her name. She says something but the words make no sense, so what does that matter? Her bluebell eyes say everything, I will answer her beckon, I am far too bold. She does not speak to me, but rather in response to the stars asking for her eyes to replace them in their absence. The brightness of her cheeks would outshine the stars the way the sun outshines a lantern, look how she leans upon her hand. How I wish that I was her hand so that I might caress her face as it does." He paused for a moment and looked at me, I knew how my cheeks were aflame. "What do you think?"
"It... was ... amazing. Where did you get your inspiration from?"
"You. Everything I said was truth about you,"he paused and looked away, turning his back to me in attempts to keep me from hearing him. "I think I may have a small crush on you."
I felt my stomach twist in knots, butterflies tickling my heart. "Really?"
"Yeah." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at the floor, avoiding my hopeful gaze. I had dreamt what this moment would be like, now that it was here, I was at a loss for words. More than usual.
"Adrien will you look at me?" I knew that I was a gushing mess, my cheeks cherry red, my lips spread open in the widest grin I'd ever had. "I want you to know something."
He turned to me, a small blush of his own gracing those delicate cheeks, his green eyes more vibrant than before. "What is it Mari?"
"I kinda like you too." I stared hard into his eyes mustering all the courage I had to do so. He moved in closer to me, the smell of him wafting past my nose, he smelled like clean laundry and meadows.
"I'm glad then," he came a little closer, close enough that I could see the light green flecks around the edges of his iris. He reached out and took my hand into his own, bringing it to his lips. The skin of my palm aglow with the sensation, I felt his heat ebbing through my skin. The kiss was light, just enough to send tingles racing over my body, it was a sweet gesture, one from love and admiration.
"Me too."
"I guess this means the kissing scene won't be so awkward." He pressed another kiss to my hand, and I thought what it would feel like to have those lips against mine. I turned scarlet.
"U-um, y-yeah, I gu-guess not." I was a babbling idiot but I couldn't control it.
Adrien laughed and moved his hands to the sides of my face, tracing soft circles on the hollow of my cheek. He leaned down and brushed his lips against mine.
Yeah, play practice wasn't going to be as bad as I thought.
