Twelve: Day Three, Snow Day

Everyone was outside in the snow. Vivi and Arthur each made their base forts and prepared different snowballs to throw. Mystery was in the middle rubbing his fur in the snow.

“You’re so going down, Arthur,” Vivi taunted.

“Hah, y-you wish,” Arthur challenged with a smirk.

“Are we ready?”

“L-let’s do this!”

“Mystery, signal the start of the battle!” Vivi squealed.

The dog wagged his tail and barked three times. The snowball war began with Vivi throwing the first snowball hard. Arthur barely dodged it, quickly hiding behind his snow fort. He smirked as he grabbed two snowballs. Peeking out a little, he noticed his friend’s blue hair peeking out on the top of her fort. He threw a snowball towards her hair, covering her hair with the cold substance. Vivi squealed.

“Hey! That’s cold, Arthur!” she yelled and furiously threw another snowball.

Arthur chuckled and aimed another snowball at her face before ducking behind his fort again.

“It’s f-full out war, Vivs!” Arthur called back. “You’ve g-gotta be-”

He was interrupted when a snowball landed in his mouth. Instantly, he spit the cold substance out of his mouth and growled.

“You’ve gotta be prepared? Is that what you were going to say?” Vivi asked and Arthur could hear the teasing smirk in her voice. “You’ve gotta stay focused.”

“O-oh yeah?” Arthur chuckled.

Arthur grabbed three snowballs. He quickly peeked up. Vivi was hidden, but he could hear her giggling from behind...his own fort? He looked down to see the bluenette giggling quietly with a few snowballs surrounding her. Arthur smirked and instantly started dropping the snowballs above her head.

“Ah!” she squealed and started throwing her snowballs back, hitting Arthur’s arm, chest, and face.

“Man down!” Arthur giggled out.

Mystery trotted over to the blonde and licked his cheek. Arthur smiled and rubbed his fur.

“H-hey, bud.”

“Ready to surrender, Arthur?” Vivi taunted.

“I-If I surrender, we’re tied,” Arthur smirked.”

“Not anymore!” Vivi screeched and bombarded Arthur with snowball after snowball after snowball.

Arthur couldn’t dodge any of the thrown snowballs, and Vivi wouldn’t let up.

“Okay! Okay! I surrender!” Arthur called and Mystery barked to signal the end of the fight.

Vivi stopped throwing snowballs and smirked victoriously.

“I win! I win! I win!” Vivi spun around in a victory dance.

Arthur only watched and laughed at the silly dance. Vivi smiled and helped Arthur up after finishing her dance.

The rest of their snow day was spent making snow angels and snowmen. Mystery mostly watched and ran around excitedly. Now the three were indoors. They would’ve stayed out longer if Mystery hadn’t started sneezing constantly.

“Hot cocoa’s r-ready!” Arthur called, placing a few mini marshmallows in each mug.

He brought them to the living room, where Vivi was currently looking at something on her phone and Mystery was heating up by the fireplace.

“My d-dear Vivi, your h-hot chocolate with m-mini marshmallows,” Arthur handed the hot cocoa to Vivi.

She giggled and accepted the mug. “Thank you, Arthur.”

Mystery looked back at Arthur and raised an eyebrow.

“D-Don’t worry, bud,” he smiled. “I didn’t f-forget you.”

Arthur returned to the kitchen to retrieve Mystery’s bowl full of hot cocoa. He placed the bowl in front of the dog, and pat his head.

“So, are you ready for tomorrow?” Vivi asked as Arthur walked over to sit next to her.

“Yeah, heh, I c-can’t wait t-to see what you h-have planned,” Arthur smiled.

Vivi sipped her hot cocoa. Arthur picked up his locket and looked at the picture again. A smile crept on his face and tears were tempted to fall.

“Arthur? You okay?” Vivi asked.

“Yeah, I’m okay,” he replied looking away.

“No you’re not, what’s wrong?”

“I-It’s nothing, I promise. J-Just thinking about l-life,” Arthur sighed.

Vivi seemed like she wanted to push further, but she decided against it and sipped on her hot cocoa.

“Hey, Vivs...do you...w-want to take c-care of Mystery f-for a couple of d-days?”

“What?” Vivi asked confused.

Mystery peeked up at the two of them.

“I-I know wh-what you’re thinking.” Arthur sipped his cocoa. “Yes, you’ll s-see us t-tomorrow...b-but…” ‘Shoot! Think, Arthur, think!’ “I k-kinda wanted to h-have tonight t-to myself.”

Mystery whined and walked over to Arthur. He placed a paw on Arthur’s socked foot as if to tell him that he wouldn’t bother him at all tonight.

“What’s gotten into you? Something’s going on, isn’t there? Something’s wrong,” Vivi accused.

“No, no! N-nothing’s wrong, nothing’s going on...it’s just...Mystery b-barely sees you, s-so I figured h-he’d want to sp-spend more t-time with you.”

“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?” Vivi asked.

“N-never better!” Arthur smiled.

“Alright, I’ll take him for tonight, but don’t think I’m not suspicious of whatever it is you’re planning,” Vivi warned.

“O-of course, thanks.”

Mystery whimpered and whined as if he didn’t want to go with Vivi, which he probably didn’t. Arthur just rubbed his fur as an apology…

And a goodbye.
