Chanyeol tried to ignore that thought for the rest of the day. But, ultimately failed. No matter how much he tried to concentrate on what his teacher was saying, all he could think about was that black haired, large eyed boy who practically saved his entire semester grade.
Chanyeol was then snapped out of his daydreaming by his math teacher, Mr. Choi, trying to get his attention.
"Are you kidding me... Chanyeol!" He shouted.
Chanyeol jolted up, and the entire class laughed at the spectacle.
"Yes?" he asked, trying to make it look like he was paying attention.
"Chanyeol. Please be honest. Did you hear a word that I just said?" Mr. Choi asked in a defeated tone.
"I... no." Chanyeol answered, figuring it was best to respond truthfully, as Mr. Choi was always good at telling when any of his students was lying.
"Okay. Thank you for being honest, but this is the third time today that I caught you daydreaming in the middle of a lesson. Please see me after class." He said, giving Chanyeol a disappointed look.
Chanyeol sunk down in his seat, his face red with embarrassment, as the whole class started laughing at his folly.
"Okay okay! Now that is enough!" Mr. Choi commanded, quieting down the class.
"Now, as I was saying, can anyone tell me what the square root of four hundred thirty-five is?"
After the bell rang, signifying the end of the period, Chanyeol nervously waited for everyone else to leave the room, and then, not knowing what to do, sort of just awkwardly sat at his desk.
"Come on up here. I just need to talk to you, you're not in detention." Said Mr. Choi, giving Chanyeol a look that said, child. What are you doing.
Chanyeol nervously made his way up to his desk, and then waited to be scolded.
"Look, Chanyeol, I am not going to scold you." Mr. Choi said, clearly sensing what the boy was thinking.
"You... aren't?" Chanyeol asked, surprised.
"No. Of course not. As your teacher, I am just worried about you." Mr. Choi said, his sharp eyes carrying a concerned look.
"Why?" Chanyeol asked.
"You usually pay very close attention in this class, especially since the incident back in first semester." Mr. Choi said.
Chanyeol remembered last semester. He had had the lowest grades in his year in math. He didn't know what he did, but Chanyeol had had to stay after class almost everyday, Mr. Choi even setting him up with a tutor at one point, just so he could get his grades back up.
"Anyways, what I am asking is, why were you so distracted today? I don't want to seem like I am calling you out for every little thing you do wrong, but I just don't want this to become a habit." Mr. Choi said, looking at Chanyeol worriedly.
"It won't become a habit, I promise." Said Chanyeol, not wanting to have to reveal exactly why he was so distracted today.
"Okay... Well... If you have any trouble with the homework, don't be afraid to ask." Said Mr. Choi as Chanyeol started to exit the room.
"I will!" Chanyeol called as he walked out.
That was close. Chanyeol thought to himself as he walked down the hallway to the cafeteria, as lunch was his next period.
After Chanyeol paid for his lunch, he went to the bench outside near the basketball court that he usually eats at. Only, when he got to the bench, he found someone else already sitting there. It was Kyungsoo. Chanyeol felt his cheeks go pink upon seeing him. Kyungsoo then looked up and saw Chanyeol standing there.
"Oh! Sorry, do you usually sit here? If so, I can move. There was just nowhere else to go and-" Chanyeol cut off the boy.
"No! It's fine! There is still enough room on the bench for me too." Said Chanyeol, squeezing himself next to Kyungsoo (and inwardly freaking out about how close they were).
They spent the next few minutes eating in an awkward silence. That is, until a giant basketball came flying out of nowhere and hit Kyungsoo in the head. Chanyeol could see Kyungsoo's eyes watering as he rubbed the back of his head where it hit.
"See Mark! This is why I usually play this alone, and not with you!" Chanyeol heard a voice shout from the basketball court.
"Now, since you were the one who threw it at the poor kid, why don't you go get it?
"Oh f*ck no! Do you see who he is sitting with?" another voice shouted back.
"You know he can hear you right?" the first voice asked the second.
Chanyeol finally decided to look through the fence to the basketball court behind him, with a look on his face that was half angry, half confusion and hurt. What he saw were two boys arguing. One was extremely tall, with dyed dark blonde hair that was styled in a somewhat cool fashion. The other was a little shorter, with hair that was a sort of dark pink color, and gave Chanyeol a scowl when he saw him. The taller easily shoved the other one to the side when he saw this, and rushed over to Chanyeol and Kyungsoo.
"I am so sorry! That ball was Mark's fault, not mine." Said the tall boy, picking up the basketball from where it had rested on the ground.
"I'm Kris by the way." He said, holding out his hand to shake.
Kyungsoo shook it before Chanyeol could.
"Nice to meet you." He said in a quiet voice.
"You too. Anyways, sorry for the random ball to the head. I am going to get back to the game now." Kris said, then rushed back off to the court.
"Hey," Chanyeol said as soon as Kris was out of earshot, "are you actually okay?"
"No... not really." Kyungsoo said, rubbing the spot on his head where the basketball hit.
"Do you need me to take you to the nurse?" Chanyeol asked Kyungsoo worriedly.
"No, I think I will be fine." Kyungsoo said, picking his sandwich back up.
The rest of lunch was a little easier, and the conversation flowed a little easier between them. Chanyeol found out some simple things about Kyungsoo, just as Kyungsoo found out some simple things about Chanyeol. Eventually, as lunch ended, Chanyeol mustered up enough courage to ask Kyungsoo one last thing.
"Could we... do this again tomorrow?" Chanyeol asked.
"I don't see any reason not to. As long as I don't get hit in the head with a basketball again." Said Kyungsoo, slightly smiling.
"I'll try my best to keep that from happening." Joked Chanyeol, smiling widely.
"See you tomorrow then, Park Chanyeol." Said Kyungsoo, walking away smiling.
"You too!" Said Chanyeol, struck dumb with love, as he hurried off to his next class.
