As it got closer to winter break, Chanyeol started to suspect that Kyungsoo had been avoiding him on purpose. Sure, they had seen each other in the hallway a few times, but as soon as Chanyeol's eyes had met with Kyungsoo's, the smaller boy's doe eyes always broke the contact and shifted their gaze to the floor. Chanyeol still tried to continue his life as usual, he had only known Kyungsoo for a few weeks after all, but now, he felt like there was something missing. Like a piece of him had always been gone but he had just always pushed the feeling to the back of his mind. When he had been with Kyungsoo, that feeling had disappeared. He had felt whole. But now it just felt like more of him was missing then ever.
One day, the day before winter break had started to be exact, he came out to his usual bench near the now vacant, snow-covered basketball court to eat. But, he found his seat taken yet again. At first a little part of him hoped it was Kyungsoo, but as he got closer, that spark of hope was extinguished by the fact that this person was way too tall and lanky to be the short, cute boy. Chanyeol, his mind full of curiosity, approached the figure slowly. The person was clearly male, and wearing a heavy black winter coat that was covering a white turtleneck sweater. He wore a gray cap that covered some of his caramel-colored hair, and his cheeks were rosy against the biting winter wind. He had brown eyes and extremely large lips. He wore a patient expression, as if waiting for someone.
Chanyeol decided that he (stalkerishly) would hang back behind a tree, as he saw another figure approaching the model-like boy. The boy stood up at the other figure's approach, making Chanyeol notice how tall he was. But the most surprising thing about the scene was who he had figured the other boy was.
It was Shin Hoseok, better known as Wonho, and he just so happened to be one of Kai's posse. Chanyeol had recognized him by his peculiar hairstyle, and his trademark charming smile. Wonho, a few years back, had been one of Kai's closest friends and was practically inseparable from him. But these days, people were seeing him less and less. He was slowly and effortlessly fading into the background.
And it seems that Chanyeol had finally found out why.
Wonho pulled the other boy in for a passionate kiss as soon as they were close enough, and then they sat down and started talking.
Chanyeol decides that it would probably be best to leave the area and just skip lunch that afternoon, and just spend the rest of his lunch period mulling over the questions and information his mind had just acquired.
Later that day, after school was let out for the final time before winter break, Chanyeol was taking his usual route home, trying not to focus on the cold and instead focus on the beautiful snowfall that was starting to happen. It didn't really help though, as the snowfall reminded him of Kyungsoo. It reminded him of Kyungsoo's beautifully pale skin, it reminded him of how soft his skin was when his hand had occasionally brushed over Chanyeol's.
"Kyungsoo... I miss you..." Chanyeol said aloud, seemingly talking to the snowfall.
"Hey." A voice from behind Chanyeol piped up, scaring Chanyeol enough to make him jump.
The owner of the voice started laughing, and when Chanyeol turned around to see who it was, he found Wonho. The blue-haired boy stopped laughing and just smiled as he started talking.
"Hey. I saw you behind that tree earlier today." He said, surprisingly not losing his smile.
Chanyeol's cheeks grew red from embarrassment, "I wasn't trying to spy on you! I just saw what was happening and... Oh gosh I sound like a stalker..."
Wonho just picked up his pace so that he was next to Chanyeol now, instead of behind him. The other boy patted his shoulder reassuringly, "it's okay, we all have those extra-nosy times sometimes. I get it. Just..."
The blue haired boy hesitated, biting his lip.
"Please don't spread the news of my relationship around, okay? I mean, I'm not friends with Kai anymore for a reason, you know?"
"Of course." Chanyeol said, nodding his head understandingly, if it had been any other of Kai's ex-friends, he would have been less merciful, but Wonho had never really done anything to hurt him, and besides, Chanyeol didn't want him and his boyfriend to have to go through the same sh*t that he had to go through now.
"Also," said Wonho, giving Chanyeol a sad look, "I heard what you said earlier. Who's Kyungsoo? if you don't mind me asking?"
Chanyeol couldn't help but feel like he had to tell someone about it. So, he decided to spill the whole thing. The story of how he met Kyungsoo, what he felt for him, why they haven't been hanging out recently, all of that stuff. As soon as Chanyeol had finished, the other boy nodded and spoke.
"Well, I suggest you talk it out with him. Face to face. Trust me, I have gone through my rough patches with some people who are still very close to me, but talking it out always helps." He said reassuringly.
"Really? Are you sure it will work?" Chanyeol asked, skeptical.
"Yes! 100%." Said Wonho, giving Chanyeol a small laugh.
"Ok then, I will try it." Said Chanyeol, smiling at the other boy.
"Cool! Hope I see you around then." Said Wonho, walking up to a house which Chanyeol presumed was his.
"You too!" Said Chanyeol, waving happily as the blue-haired boy entered his house.
Later, Chanyeol decided to give Wonho's advice a try by texting Kyungsoo (who's number he had never used before now), and asking him to meet him at the cafe that was down near the corner of their School.
Now all that Chanyeol could do was wait and hope that Kyungsoo would either reply or show up.
