But they made sure I was well taken care of financially... But I never felt complete... I always felt there was something missing in my life... But I didn't know what...

Jaein's thoughts: I was always loved by my parents... I was never rich financially, but my parents and I were a happy family... Even though I had to work and study at the same time to pay for my own fees... I felt complete... I didn't need anything more if I had my parents... But my world of happiness felt apart when my parents passed on in an accident...

Jaein's house...

Jaein had just came back from the hospital, after receiving news about her parents' deaths. She was approaching the house when she noticed a woman standing in front of her door.

Jaein: Excuse me... Can I help you?

The woman turned around and faced Jaein. It was their landlady.

Landlady: Sorry about your parents Jaein...

Jaein: Thanks auntie...

Landlady: I might seem heartless to say this now... But I'm sorry I have to do it now...

Jaein: What is it auntie?

Landlady: I'm afraid that your parents have not paid the rent for the apartment for the past few months and I have to take the apartment back.

Jaein: But... auntie... I...

Landlady: I can give you up to a week's time to move out... That's all I can do Jaein... I'm sorry... But I need the rent to survive too...

Jaein: I understand... I'll move out within a week...

Jaein's parents' funeral...

Jaejoong's dad was old schoolmates with Jaein's dad, so they came with Jaejoong to her parents' funeral. It was here that the two met for the first time...

Jaein was standing in front of the coffins, when they arrived and she turned to thank them for coming. There weren't many people there as they were not exactly rich, so their friends were all from work, and those had already gone to work or left to go home to rest.

After chatting for a while, Jaejoong and his parents were leaving and Jaein was seeing them off. When she was walking down the steps with them, she felt the world spin around her and then turned black.

She had fainted from over-exhaustion. She had been trying to look for an apartment to rent cheaply so that she could move, and with her parents' funeral, she was hardly getting enough rest.

Jaejoong caught her in his arms when she blacked out. His parents called out her name but she wasn't responding. Then his parents went to get his car to drive her to the hospital, leaving her in his arms. He looked at her properly for the first time.

Jaejoong's thoughts: She looks so pale... So frail... It must be really hard for her to accept the fact that both her parents left her... I wonder how she is going to cope...

Jaejoong's mum: Jaejoong! Hurry! We've got to send her to the hospital!

At the hospital...

Jaejoong was sitting by Jaein's bed when she woke up. His parents had forced him to stay there with her to make sure she was alright.

Jaein: Where... am... I?

Jaejoong: The hospital.

Jaein: Huh? How come?

Jaejoong: You fainted.

Jaein: Oh...

Jaein got up and tried to get off the bed. But Jaejoong stopped her.

Jaejoong: You need to rest. Doctor's orders.

Jaein: I can't afford... I mean... I need to... Go back to settle the funeral...

Jaejoong: You mean you can't afford to stay here.

Jaein (shocked): Huh?

Jaejoong: Your parents are dead. The breadwinners are gone. Who's gonna pay from now on?

Jaejin (angrily): That's none of your business!

Jaejoong: Well I hope it's not us, cos I don't even know you... For all I know, you might even be faking it...

Jaein (furiously getting up): WELL DON'T WORRY! I WILL LEAVE NOW AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY A SINGLE CENT! I WON'T BOTHER YOU EVEN IF I DIE ON THE STREETS! IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

Jaejoong grabbed her arm.

Jaejoong (challengingly): You sure?

Jaein: YES!

Jaein flung away his arm furiously and stormed out of the room.

Jaein's thoughts: What an arrogant idiot! Who does he think he is?!!! If not for the fact that his parents are my parents' friends, I would have slapped him back there!!!

Jaejoong's thoughts: Such a headstrong girl... Let's just see how long you can last before you beg us for help...
