I wake and my eyes instantly close as the sun blinds me.
Where am I? I open my eyes once more and try to cover my eyes with my hand but its stuck. I look over and see I am still inside his car. My eyes are wide as I realise I've spent all night in a car. With a boy. The boy that's trapping my hand with his.
I feel him move beside me but I'm too embarrassed to look round at him, but I can tell he's laughing quietly. "A boy?" he croaks out. Crap did I say that out loud?
"Well how old." I'm interrupted, my mum has shouted my name from the doorway of my house and her eyes meet mine. My mum is going to kill me.
Before I can even exit the car, my mum has reached us in seconds. "Do I even want to know what this is?" Her voice is low and I can tell she is mad, I shrink back as I try not to look in her eyes.
"Mrs Raye?" Cain says as he reaches his hand out the window as if to shake it. I want to laugh at the awkwardness but I know better.
"It's Miss! Who are you?" But she looks accusingly at me and know the question isn't for Cain.
"Cain." I muster up. Why am I feeling guilty I haven't done anything wrong?
"So, does he have a surname? Age?" When I don't give her an answer and shrug she looks at him. Cain is smiling like it's funny but her eyes narrow at him. "Cain Austin and 19" he looks at me as he says it and smirks.
I open my side door and my foot knocks against the bottles on the floor, my eyes meet my mums and she's furious. I can feel a nervous smile coming on and I want to laugh.
"I will catch you later Madison" I want to stuff a sock in his mouth to stop him from speaking. I cough to hide the nervous laugh that wants to escape. He watches as I stumble out of the car and his eyes are a light and he winks at me.
I follow my mum into the house as she stomps in, I swear the neighbours can hear her footsteps. I look back and see that Cain has already driven off.
"What is this about Madison?" she says as she closes the door, probably making sure the neighbours couldn't hear.
I try to speak but she doesn't let me finish.
"You stayed out all night with a man, that you hardly know and you were drinking?" her voice is almost a shriek now and I just want to go to my room and hide.
"I just fell asleep in his car, we didn't go anywhere and I only had one drink" fibber.
"So, who is he?" she is sitting down now on the sofa looking up at me. But she's making me feel 2ft tall.
"I met him at a party" I instantly regret saying it and she's standing up again looking down at me.
"You spent the night with a guy you met at a party? He looks older than 19 mad, who bought the alcohol?"
"Yes that's what I said and he did I assume" I didn't mean for it to sound like It did but her cheeks turned red and she told me to go up to my room.
"We didn't do anything but have a drink" I say as I make my escape.
She didn't look like she believed me but It was the truth. Well truth with a little fib. I wasn't sure how many drinks I had.
I remember and I smile as tears fall down my face. I didn't dream again. Was Cain keeping my nightmares away? I shake the thought away as it wasn't possible.
My phone beeps in my pocket, I grab it instantly and put it on silent. I didn't want to risk her taking my phone from me.
*Cain - Still alive?
I reply smiling.
Barely. M
A Reply comes instantly and I snort.
*Cain - I Think she liked me :)
Were we in the same car? M
He doesn't reply but I spend the day washing my clothes, bedding and then started on dinner. My mum finishes work in two hours and I needed to say sorry. I didn't want her having to worry about me. I put dinner in the oven, her favourite lasagne. I try not to think about having another nightmare tonight and just make the most of not being in pain.
I start putting clothes away and I hear a bang come from downstairs and what sounds like plates smashing. I walk towards the stairs and the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
"Mum?" a reply doesn't come but I hear more plates smashing. My heart threatens to escape as I run back to my room and close the door. I feel my pocket for my phone, I try not to panic as I realise my phone Is downstairs. In the kitchen. I can hear chase from outside barking to get in. It wasn't my mum and it wasn't chase then who was it? Everything in me wanted to scream and run out the house. I look frantically around my room for anything that can be used as a weapon, I curse myself for having very little in my room and I reach for my lamp. I rip the shade off, its heavy enough to do some damage.
I can hear heavy footsteps coming up stairs and I contemplate hiding under my bed. But that never works out in films. I stand back from my door, ready to swing the lamp and hit its target. I can tell the footsteps are heading straight for my room and within seconds my door swings open and a large frame fills my door way.
Its Rhys.
I want to ask him why he's here but I don't. I take a step back as he takes steps towards me. I clung to the lamp too scared to let it go.
"Please just go." I sob. I knew what he wanted.
He smiles at my pleas.
