Dracula's Soul Mate ✔️

Chapter I

A COUPLE CENTURYS AFTER

"Hurry Diana!" Katrina yells as she incentives her horse to go faster "We must hurry! They are almost upon us!"

"I'm right behind you!" I yell matching her pace.

I could hear the guards of the palace coming closer and closer. We are travelling fast but not even at this pace we are going to be able to get them off our trail. If only the king hadn't taken such an interest in me, then all of this could have been avoided.

I risk looking back and notice two royal soldiers catching up with me. I pick up the dagger I had hidden in my leg and when one of the riders is almost side to side with me I threw it at him, managing to hit him on his right side. I caught him by surprise with my attack, he obviously hadn't seen that coming. It was his mistake. I had many more tricks up my sleeve.

"You okay?" Katrina asks taking a quick glance behind her

"I'm good" I confirm. The other riders were nearby and in our pursuit we had to keep going. We were almost there.

"We're approaching the land's border!" she tells me never slowing down.

I hear shouts from the horsemen as they gallop their horses at full speed. My heart was beating fast; I could hear a buzz in my hears with how strong the wind was against me. My legs ash but yet I rode faster. I rode until I feel the air change around me and the dark forest surrounds me. I could no longer hear the royal guards coming after us. I slacken my grip on the reins of the horse until he comes to a complete stop. Katrina does the same.

"Are you sure they won't follow us?" Katrina asks unsure

"No. But they won't dare step into Romania lands without talking with the king." I reassure her. Of this I was certain. No Turk would willingly step into Romania territory if they not wish to have a most horrifying death. Except us of course, but we had no other choice.

"We should find cover for tonight and continue our journey first thing in the morning. We don't want to long here just in case." I suggest.

We ride for a couple more hours and when we finally found a good place to rest for the night, we stopped. I feed the horses while Katrina built a fire to keep us warm for the night.

"I'll take first watch" I volunteer "Rest. Our journey will be long tomorrow."

She bids me goodnight and she lays beside the fire as I keep watch. They are many dangerous creatures lurking in the dark. Everybody knows this. Not only dangerous beasts but something else as well.... vampires. Creatures of the undead who feed on the blood of humans to gain their strength and immortality.

I've known about their existence my entire life, my papa told me all kinds of stories about them, but specially how we can kill them. Katrina and I were both train in fight against vampires. I fought a few in my years, all of them were of immense beauty and incredible strength. I understand how the promise of eternal beauty and immortality can lure someone into joining the undead even if that meant that they could never walk in the sun again, but that was never something that appealed to me. Only God has the power to create life and take it. We should not go against the natural order of Nature. From dust we were born and to dust we shall return.
