I did not see Dracula for the rest of the night. I had the feeling he was avoiding me but I needed to talk with him, I needed answers to the thousand's questions running around in my head.
Out of luck I came across a vampire who would surely know where he would be. Renfield.
"Renfield?" I call him
"You called my lady?" he asks bowing slightly. I still found it uncomfortable every time someone does that.
"Yes. I am looking for your lord, Dracula have you seen him?" I ask hopeful
"I am sorry my lady but my lord does not encounter himself in the castle right now" he informs me
I was disappointed.
"Well...do you know when he will be back?"
"My lord is his own master, my lady, I know not when he will return" he said in his annoying creepy calm way.
He turns around to leave but there was something else I needed to know.
"Wait!" I yell grabbing his arm and the second I do, an image of a man wearing a cloth appears in front of me, his face hidden, he had a dagger in his hand and as I am being held captive by others he plunges the knife down and all I can hear is a deafening scream filled with terror.
I let go of Renfield's arm as if I had been electrified. I was looking at him confused and clutching my hand trying to make the feeling go away. As fast as that image had appeared it had disappeared, but that scream...it chilled me to the core, it was like I could still feel that feeling of being trapped and helpless as death approaches me.
"Are you well my lady?" he asks intrigued by my sudden change of attitude.
"I am well, thank you" I lie. Why had that image appeared when I grabbed his arm? What could be the meaning of this?
"Did you wish to ask me something else?" he asks. I could not read his expression right now, and how badly did I wanted to do that just now. To know what this man was thinking. There was something about him that I didn't trust, it was something in my gut, and my gut never failed me before.
"Yes..."I confirm remembering the reason why I had stopped him "My daggers...they were taken from me, I would like to have them back"
"I apologize my lady but I cannot return your daggers to you" he responds infuriating me
"Why not!? They are mine you had no right to take them in the first place" I complain
"After the incident with Alexandru, it was decided that it would be for the best if you were deprived of your weapons, that way the others will not view you as a threat" he explained
By others it was clear he was referring to the vampires that lived in this castle.
"But I need my weapons, how else am I to defend myself?" I counter attack
"No one will dare lay a hand on you my lady, my master has commanded it so"
"Yeah, I heard that one before" I say remembering what he had said when I first came into the castle
"Alexandru was...an irregularity and he's suffering his punishment for his disobedience as we speak" he told me "Now if my lady doesn't wish anything else, I am needed elsewhere"
He departed and I did nothing to stop him. I was still shaken by what had happen earlier, I felt as if my body was freezing, as if death himself stood right beside me right now and was taking all the warmth of my body. I retrieved to my bedroom and got into bed hoping to warm myself underneath the covers.
