"Excuse me sir; are you ok?" A voice said snapping me out of the flashback. It was hard enough dealing with Ava's death, but I had to focus on the problem in front of me.
"Namaste friend, what is your name?" I asked giving the usual greeting. She cocked her head to the side giving me an utterly confused look before speaking again.
"Jade... Jade Lepardo de las Nieves" she held out her hand and I shook it. "Sorry I freaked out. I came and there were all these heroes around me; needless to say I thought they were going to attack me at first. There was so many of them. " She spoke, her voice returning to a casual tone. Her eyes flickered to a sunset orange color as she smiled at me.
"WOAH!!!" Squirrel girl spoke up, amazed at the sudden change in eye color. "How did you do that? Is it some kind of science the world has made up or is it a power? Guys what if she's a superhero like us? How exciting would that be!!!!" Squirrel girl spoke at her usual rabid fast paced tongue. She was up in Jade's face and she just gave me a look that screamed -help me!-. Power man grabbed Squirrel girl and picked her up bridal style to give Jade some space. We all saw both Squirrel girl and Power man blush at this predicament. Jade just smiled at the pair as Cloak and Dagger walked up to introduce themselves.
"Those two would be so cute together. AAH!" Jade screamed when Cloak walked up. She still composed herself as Dagger introduced herself, Cloak still glaring at Jade.
"Hi I'm Dagger and this is---" Dagger said before Cloak pushed Dagger behind him and towered over Jade.
"If you think that you could possibly replace White tiger because you have that amulet, you are severely mistaken. Knowing you, you probably found it in the ruins of that temple. DIDN'T YOU!!?" Cloak whispered, his voice sharp enough to cut right through your very soul. Jade stuttered before taking a deep breath and looking back up at Cloak giving him the same deadly look. Her orange eyes now a fiery red like a volcano.
"Ok for the record I don't want to replace anyone here. Two, I found this in a box on my doorstep, not in some kind of ruins or whatever the hell kind of nonsense you're spitting! And Three, I had a perfectly normal life before this amulet showed up. Now some person is stalking me and my sister for the past week!! So if you will do me the favor of getting off of my case before you seriously get hurt; I'll be happy to hear your apology after I'm done here. GOT IT?!" Jade snarled almost roared at Cloak. The amulet was glowing a vigorous green making Jade's angry red eyes stand out even more. She stood as if she was ready to claw Cloak to pieces. Her lips were even pulled back into a snarl. Cloak just sat there, his jaw dropped all the way to the floor. His eyes bugged out and surprise etched into his face like it had just been written on with permanent marker,
I walked up to Jade and put my hand on her shoulder. She turned her head to look at me, closed her eyes, and relaxed. She rolled back her neck, and opened her now soft golden eyes. She looked at Cloak and helped him up.
"Oh shoot I'm so sorry. That usually happens when I get angry. Heck I even got kicked out of school for getting angry at a bully. I blacked out there too. Huh, never did remember what happened to that kid. Anyways I'm really freaking sorry!" Jade spoke apologizing with her eyes to the ground and standing in a shy position. Cloak just looked at her, and started laughing. Dagger also began to laugh much to everyone's astonishment.
"Oh no need to apologize. We were just wanting to know how you'd react. That's all." Dagger choked out, tears of laughter in her eyes. Cloak calmed himself and stood up in front of Jade, looking down at her. She looked surprised and extremely confused at the current situation, but then who wouldn't be. Funny though, she looked like Ava whenever she got surprised. I smiled at the memory.
"Hi I'm Cloak. That's Dagger who's still laughing over there." Cloak smirked at Dagger and rolled his eyes. "The girl with the tail is Squirrel-Girl and the guy next to her with the sunglasses in Power-Man. The guy on the ceiling is Spider-Man, and the annoying speck in blue is Nova."
"HEY I heard that!" Nova said, outraged at how Cloak considered him. "Yeah and you, my beautiful Jade are talking to a living, breathing blanket." Nova shot back at Cloak, while trying to flirt with Jade. He angered Cloak while Jade just raised her eyebrow and smiling.
"You know you must have a very sad life if you're insulting heroes and trying to and failing to flirt with a girl who can kick your butt in ten seconds flat." She retorted back at Nova. Needless to say the whole room exploded at the roast as Nova went to a corner and started to cry.
"And you must be Iron fist. Nice to meet you." Jade spoke to me. Her orange eyes boring into mine. She reminded me of Ava in a way, but I pushed it away. It's probably just a coincidence.
Jade ran off to talk to the others, while I stood watching them. They all reminded me of how our old team used to be. At that I felt the weird sensation of someone watching me. I turned and saw a figure in all white crouching against one of the buildings across the water, its amethyst eyes boring straight into mine. Then in a blink it was gone.
