Carlee
I rushed up to the nurse sitting at the desk. "Curtis Rodgers room please."
She looked up at me then down at her computer. "Take the elevators up to the 6th floor, then make a left."
"Thank you." I grabbed Chris's hand and pulled him to the elevator. Once we got inside, he pulled me into his arms and gently rubbed my back. That's exactly what I needed.
He gently kissed my forehead. "You alright?"
"I'm nervous. Ciara or Aubrey hasn't updated me on how he's doing. This is so crazy."
"It really is. But everything will be okay."
The elevator stopped and we got off and made a left like the nurse downstairs told us. I walked to another nursing station.
"Hello." The nurse said.
"Hi, can you tell me what room Curtis Rodgers is in?"
"One second." She started typing away. "And who are you to Mr. Rodgers?"
"I'm his daughter. Carlee."
"That's weird only people on the list are his wife Leslie and his step daughter Marissa. His wife told us to not let anyone but the people on that list back to see him."
"Excuse me?"
"Im sorry, I can't let you back there."
"She's not even his wife! They haven't gotten married yet. She can't do this."
"She brought in a marriage certificate the day he came in. It looks like they were just recently married."
"This is some bullshit."
"Carlee, calm down." Chris said in my ear.
"Have my brother and sister been up here? Ciara and Curtis?"
"Yes but we had to turn them away also. You know that you guys can fight this."
"Oh I will be." I pulled my phone out of my purse and called Ciara."
"Hello." She answered.
"Leslie is blocking us from seeing daddy! Why didn't anybody tell us this."
"We were trying to fix this before you got home. Leslie has really been tripping!"
"And the nurse said that they're married. When did that happen?"
"Carlee I'm just as lost as you. Something isn't right here and we need to figure it out. We're talking to Aubrey's lawyer to figure everything out. Where are you? We need to meet up."
"The hospital."
"Everybody should meet up at my place in about an hour."
"Alright."
"Okay, I'll see you in a minute."
