(Cas POV)

Today I am determined to help Sam and Dean with their family problems. I haven't met their dad yet but from the letter future me sent, I'm terrified.

John Winchester, from what I heard, is an ex-marine. Help me.

Today is Tuesday, and I need to leave for school like, five minutes ago to make it there on time. Mother left for work already, something about it being tax season? I dunno, I tuned her out.

I checked the mail before I left, waving awkwardly at the cougar, and found the 5th letter.

I tucked it in my pocket and started the walk to school. It was colder than Satan's tits out here and I'm pretty sure my nuts are gonna freeze solid.

I was seriously considering skipping school when I heard the engine of the Impala behind me.

Dean slowed down so he was driving right along side me. "Need a ride?"

"Dear god yes," I said, kind of desperately.

Dean smiled and leaned over the passenger seat to open the door for me.

I slid into the passenger seat and glanced back to say hello to Sam, only to find the backseat was empty.

"Where's -"

"Sam got another ride to school," Dean cut me off, gritting his teeth.

"Oh really? Who?" I ask casually.

"Our mom."

"Why do you seem so angry about that?"

"Because she's a bitch who doesn't deserve his trust."

"Okay then."

Awkward silence.

"She's always leaving on these assignments and missing all the important crap. I mean, dad isn't' around all the time but at least he bothers to show up when we need him."

It was quiet again after that.

Dean parked in a stall near the back of the lot. I mumbled a thank you and turned to get out.

Dean put his hand on my shoulder and pulled me to face him.

He put a hand on either side of my face and leaned in.

Okay he's going to kiss me.

It was soft and slow and kind of sad. But it was still Dean Winchester which means it was freaking amazing.

Dean pulled away first. He wrapped both arms around my neck and sorta pulled me into his chest. I wrapped my arms around his waist.

"You're great, you know that?"

"That's not exactly a popular opinion," my words were slightly muffled.

"You're great. Don't let anyone tell you differently."

I was glad he couldn't see me blush.

He kissed the top of my head and let go. Then we went to class.

~~~
Dean didn't drive me home. Instead he took me to his house.
John was there.
He said hello and shook my hand, his grip was really freaking strong.
"So, what do you think about Sam?" he asked. I'm guessing this is a test?
"He's a moose," I answered honestly.
John nodded slowly then looked at Dean.
"He's a keeper," he said pointing to me.
Then he left the room.
Oh yeah, I got John Winchester's approval. Take that, mother!
We hung out for a little while, then Sam came home with a woman, their mom.
"Hi Dean," she said cautiously.
"Mary."
"You can call me mom, you know."
"Well you'd have to actually be a mom first."
"Dean!" Sam said, looking irritated.
I just sat there awkwardly on the couch next to Dean, twiddling my thumbs uselessly.
"And who's this?" Mary asked, nodding in my direction.
"This is," Dean said, turning his head to look at me. I saw something in his eyes, like he was debating something. "Cas, my boyfriend."
Welp.
Sam looked smug, Mary looked shocked. I was kind of panicking. But then Dean sent me a small, lopsided smile and everything suddenly felt better.
"Nice to meet you," I said quietly.
"Likewise," she said, still looking at Dean.
Then her phone went off.
She pulled it out of her back pocket and checked the screen.
"It's Ketch. I'm needed in England."
"Oh, um will you be able to make it to -"
"I don't think so Sam," she said, cutting him off, "I'm sorry."
She ruffled his hair and patted his cheek.
"Bye Sammy."
"Bye mom."
"Goodbye Dean," she said, looking over at Dean, who's jaw was clenched.
"See you next season," he muttered.
"It was nice meeting you, Cas," she said to me.
I nodded at her and gave a small, awkward wave.
Then she left, just like that.
Dean turned to Sam, who looked absolutely crushed.
"Sammy -"
"I'm fine Dean," he said, smoothing out his hair. "I'm sure it was really important."
Sam went up to his room after that.
Dean drove me home in silence.
He walked me to the door. I turned to say something to him but he wrapped his arms around my waist and the back of my neck, dipped me down, and kissed me like in one of those old romantic movies.
If I died just like this, I'd be happy.
But happiness never seems to last long for me because then the front door opened.
"CASTIEL NOVAK!"
Dean and I broke apart to see the woman standing in the doorway.
"Mother."
