Liam's P.O.V.
“Milord, you have a message.” The servant said slightly out of breath.
“Is it important enough to disturb a mee—“
“Milord, your messengers that you sent to the eastern province are dead.” He cut me off.
“WHAT?!” I bellowed back at him in complete disgust that those rebels had the nerve to do such a thing.
“You heard me right milord.” He lowered himself in a slight fear and gazed downward.
“Send immediately for my commanders. They are still in the city if I’m correct. If not, send letters out to them wherever they may be. I will start the meeting as soon as two of them arrive. I don’t have patience to wait.” The servant turned around and bolted off with his orders.
I turned back to my four prisoners before me. They just stood there staring off into space or whatever it was. I cleared my throat and earned a glance from Zayn.
“I’m sorry you had to hear that. I must head to my council chambers now and prepare for the meeting. Enjoy whatever you wish to do, whether it’s leave or stay. I shall assign rooms as I said if you wish to stay.” I finished speaking and they didn’t even look like they were paying attention. I sighed and turned to one of my guards. “If they choose to stay, send for Josh. Have him see to it that they are comfortable. If they need anything just let them know it’s on me.” The guard nodded at what I told him.
I spun around and headed straight for my council chambers. This day can only get longer. All I wished to do was spend time with the four new prisoners. I wished to get to know them and know more about their kingdom. Their kingdom had always been interesting to me growing up because they gave my father so much trouble. May the stars above watch over his soul.
“Liam!” I heard my name being called and spun around to see Josh moving straight toward me.
“Yes Josh?”
“Uh, Niall and the others wish to leave.” He said rather quickly and it took me a second to figure out his words.
“Ah, see to it that they are treated kindly and sent on their way.” I replied sincerely. I had said that they were free to go and they were leaving.
“That’s the thing sire!” He said swiftly and looked concerned. “You haven’t read the letter from the prince’s father have you?” I shook my head and looked down. It was still in my hand and needed to be opened. “You need to read it.” I slowly moved to open the letter and broke the seal.
I lifted the folded piece of paper and read it.
To King Liam,
First off, I sincerely wish to congratulate you on the winning of the battle over my army. It was indeed a shock to find out that we had been defeated.
As you’ve found out by now with the four prisoners, there is something different about us. The laws of our land dictate that when we are defeated and we need to send prisoners; all the names of everyone in the land are placed together and picked. We pick at random and no one is safe except myself and my queen. It pains me to see that Niall was chosen, but I must follow the laws of the land.
Sadly, also as part of the law decree, our prisoners can’t be sent home to us or they will be executed. I do not wish to see my son put to death, nor any of the other three that are with him.
Please Liam, I beg thee. Please keep Niall safe for me and the others. I know of your kindness to all and I beg you to use it.
I must say this last part in this small note.
DO NOT LET NIALL, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, FALL IN LOVE WITH A CERTAIN SOMEONE. YOU’LL FIGURE IT OUT. THAT CERTAIN SOMEONE IS SOMEONE I DON’T TRUST!

I blinked a couple times to make sure that I read the letter right. Weird, I must admit, but who is this person he doesn’t trust.
“Liam?” I was snapped out of my thoughts by Josh standing there looking at me concerned.
“I’m fine Josh. Sadly, you can’t let them leave to go home. I can’t explain why, but just trust me. Figure something out.” I said sterner than I meant, but Josh got the message. He bowed and hurried off to see my orders fulfilled.
My mind went back to the letter and the person who this king didn’t trust.
