"Cassie? Are you alright? What is it?" Tom asked. I barely heard him. I stood wide-eyed staring at my still-ringing phone.

"Yeah.. I'm.. I'm fine." I pushed away any thoughts and put my phone back into my little purse thing. I wasn't really fine, though. Dylan was a person i knew back home, and I really thought I had told him not to talk to me ever again, after... the incident, but apparently he ignored my threats to call the police.

"You sure?" Tom asked again, looking at me with concern. I put on a fake smile.

"i'm sure," I lied. I took his hand and started walking farther into the mass of trees and lights, hoping somehow that I could just stay here forever, hidden from the rest of the world.

He followed behind me and as we walked we approached a bench and sat. He wasn't letting go of my hand, even though i slackened my grip. I didn't mind, though, so I regained my grip and broke the silence.

"Thank you so much for tonight, Tom. everything was perfect. Oh, and sorry about.. the call. Just an old," I made quotation marks with my free hand, "friend." His look of concern was there again. It melted me.

"Is someone bothering you?" He asked, searching my face for signs of distress or worry. He found them.

"Sort of. I didn't tell you this when we met, but the reason I'm here for a whole summer was to see if I would want to move here. I had dreamed about it as a kid, but the incident gave me a bit more of a push."

"The incident?" he questioned. I smiled weakly and placed my hand on his cheek.

"Another story for another time." He sighed, but didn't push me any farther. He was good at figuring out boundaries.
