Alex and Jack pulled up to Rian’s house and into his driveway. For a few moments, they sat in the car and just waited for someone to talk, but Alex broke the silence by getting out of the car to get his guitar out of the trunk. When he did this, he realized Jack still sat still in the front.

“I know I’m pretty good at guitar,” Alex said loudly enough so Jack could hear him through the closed window. “But you’re ten times better than I am, so get the fuck out!”

Jack couldn’t help but to laugh a little bit. Alex missed that smile of his, that natural, not forced smile. Maybe things were going to get better, he could only hope. Jack drew a penis on the window to make Alex laugh loudly, and then Alex yanked open the car door and pulled Jack out.

“Alright let’s go,” Jack said after grabbing his guitar. The boys went inside and downstairs to Rian’s basement where Rian and Zack were. It had been so long since they had been together to play music that Alex couldn’t help but to smile when he saw them.

“Zack! They fucking live!” Rian exclaimed, making a sarcastic shocked expression on his face.

“The walking dead,” Zack nodded in acknowledgment.

“Don’t make me take over your body,” Jack laughed, “I’ll make you do some pretty fucked up things,”

“Har. Har.” Rian responded, “Well anyways, Zack’s got some pretty awesome news for you guys,”

“That’s right,” Zack smiled, “I got us a gig in New Jersey, it’s pretty big. Some record guys will be there, so we’ve got to get a new song down,”

Alex’s smile bloomed across his face. If he could finish the lyrics to the song for his brother and play it, it would give everyone a chance to see the kind of person Alex is, what kind of music he is capable of, and most of all, how important his brother was to him.

“Great, Alex has been writing some lyrics,” Jack smiled at him, “They’re really, really good,”

That’s right Alex thought I came up with the lyrics while with Jack. At that moment, Alex didn’t want to think of the significance Jack had with his writing, all he wanted to do was sing his song.

“Let’s hear it!” Zack said with excitement. The first time in forever, Zack actually showed eagerness towards Alex.

“Alright, it’s a bit rusty,” Alex admitted, “But uh… Sing me to sleep; I’ll see you in my dreams. Waiting to say, I miss you, I’m so sorry,” His voice chimed. The others sat silently after Alex finished his refrain and stared at him.

“We might actually get signed!” Rian said. Zack and Jack agreed, saying Alex actually had something going.

“Great, fantastic,” Alex sighed with relief. “Now we just have to--”

“Alex. Gaskarth.” Lisa walked down stairs angrily. This couldn’t be good.

“Who the hell let you in?” Jack said angrily, but then calmed down, realizing he might be hinting something with his anger.

“I let myself in,” She snapped, approaching Alex.

                “What’d I do?” Alex asked.

“Don’t lie to me, Alex, don’t lie to me,” She said, burning red cheeks on her face.

“Lisa, I have no idea what you’re talking about, you really need to go, we’re having band—“ Lisa slapped Alex across the face. Alex didn’t care, honestly, that Lisa did it. What Alex did care about, was how Jack would react.

“Get the fuck out of here,” Jack said standing up.

“Or what?! You’re going to stand up to the ass who cheated on me?!” Lisa yelled. Jack stood silently, shocked, wondering, pondering, so many things could be read from his expression.

“Cheated on you?” Alex said confused, rubbing his face. Yes, Alex was aware that he did in fact cheat on her with Jack, but no one could have possibly known…

“Do you know how many people told me they saw you with another girl at the grave yard?” Lisa remarked angrily.

“The grave yard…” Alex trailed off, and then he himself got angry, “You mean Tom’s girlfriend? You know, the one who he got pregnant, and left her to take care of a baby all on her own? That one? The one who told me he actually cared about me? That girl who stood there with so much courage, just to say goodbye to a guy who didn’t even say goodbye to her? That girl Lisa?”

Everyone was at a loss of words.

                “Alex I..”

“Get out Lisa,” Alex was beat, “We’re just, we’re done,”

                “Alex please I..”

“You what, Lisa?” He said angrily. “You accused me of cheating on you, when you knew nothing at all? You made me think you were so innocent and then you slap me? You just don’t care about anyone but yourself do you?”

                “Alex listen,”

“It’s either you get out, or I do” He said. Lisa didn’t move, she was too paralyzed by guilt. Alex kept his promise and barged out of the basement and back to the highway edge.

So close. It’d only take one jump, and everything would be over. It’d definitely be the quickest way out, huh Tom? Alex thought.

“What’d I tell you about coming over here?” Jack laughed from behind. Alex didn’t turn around though, he stood staring at the road.

“I lied to her,” Alex said.

“I mean, she accused you of cheating,” Jack replied.

                “Yeah well..”

“With Tom’s girl. Not me. She accused you wrongly,” Jack sighed.

“I come here, hoping that things will get better, and now I just hate everything again,” Alex said.

“Maybe you should get some help, Alex,”

“Are you kidding me?” Alex turned around to face Jack. “You have to be fucking kidding me. I don’t need help.”

“Alex, no one wants to hear they need help but—“

“Screw you. And screw Lisa. And screw this life,” Alex yelled.

So close. It’d only take one jump.

                So he jumped.
