"...And the ministry can punish you if you use magic outside school."
"But I have used magic outside school!""Oh, we are all right. Once we get eleven, thats when we ought to be careful."
There was a momentary silence before Lily spoke,"Its true all of this, isn't it? Petunia thinks you are lying to me. You aren't, right? She says there is no Hogwarts. I wish there is."
"Ofcourse, there is a Hogwarts. Its real for us, not for her. We are the ones who will get the letter, not her."
"Really?"
"Definitely" Lily believed him this time. Because it was not always that Severus sounded so sure of anything. But when he talked of hogwarts, his constant amazement at the subject was clear.
"And will it really come by an owl?", she asked, still in awe of the fact.
"It usually does. But you are Muggle born, so maybe someone from the school will come to tell your parents."
"Does it make a difference, being Muggle born?" she asked.
Severus hesitated. His dark eyes seemed to glide over her face and her flaming red head, the freckles that bordered her nose and her emerald green eyes.
"No, it doesnt make any difference." Lily let out a breath of relief. She had been worried about it. Worried that she might not be as good as the others, coming from a non-magical family.
Lily Evans had met Severus Snape one lazy afternoon, as she played with her sister in the neighborhood park. Lily was on the swing, going higher and higher, as her soft giggles filled the late afternoon sky. Petunia watched Lily flow so graciously on the swing and then let go of the it and land perfectly on the ground, after what looked like hovering in the air for a few seconds.
"Lily! Mum told you not to do this!"
"It doesn't hurt you, Tuney, does it?" Lily walked over to the tree and picked up a flower. After holding it for about a second, the flower rose from her palm and circled in the air
"Watch! What I can do, Tuney." she said turning towards her sister.
"Mum said you aren't allowed to, Lily!!", her sister said a little annoyingly. But then, her voice softened and curiosity swept in, as she asked,"How did you do it?""Isn't it obvious?"
A young boy, who apparently had been listening to them until now, spoke from behind the bushes. His clothes were a little too loose on him and his hair badly cut and oily, fell on his face like a canopy.
"Whats obvious?" Petunia asked warily.
Severus who apparently haven't noticed her presence just yet, looked at her scornfully once and then looked at Lily and said, "You are a witch."
