Majestic.

It was the only word Remus could use to describe the Gryffindor common room.

When he entered the portrait hole, he found himself staring at large glass windows, covered with maroon and gold curtains. The walls were draped with the same colour of paper and in front of the huge brick fireplace, were placed plush chairs with big cushions. The room had its own warmth despite being on the seventh level of the castle. Beyond the windows, one can see the quidditch fields stretching out as far as eye can see. It was the sort of room that make you feel happy but at the same time make you feel safe.

Sirius had never seen anything more lively in his life. The Grimauld place, which was always dark and gloomy. Quirkiness and fear in its every corner. And for a person who had spent his entire life in such a grim looking place, Gryffindor common room was a epitome of joy. Sirius had never felt such a queer sense of belonging to any other place as he did now.

For James Potter, whose own room looked soo much like the place he was standing in now, that he forget in a instance how much he was already missing his home and it's warmth and homely feeling. He turned around the was not surprised to see that the others shared the same expression.

"I can't believe we are actually here." He whispered to Remus and Sirius.

"You already said that two hours ago." Sirius whispered back, a mocking grin on his face.

"Now, now. You can't spend the whole night admiring the common room. I know it's splendid and stuff, but you will have lots of time for that later. For now let's get you Ickle pickles to the bed." Said Bill, in his ever teasing tone.

"We are not Ickle and whatever else you and that bloody hat call us!!!!!" Sirius hissed, "We are grown up now."

"Yeah grown up. C'mon, Frank show them to the second year dormitory. Grace, can you show the girls up the stairs?"

The girls separated, and went up the staircase on the left with the second year girl. The boys followed Frank Longbottom to the stairs on the left.

They climbed two floors when finally Frank stopped in front of a wooden door and let them in.

"Since it's only four of you boys this year,  you will have the dorm to yourselves. This is Peter, by the way. Make him feel comfortable, you three." He said pointing towards Sirius, James and Remus.

Inside, the dorm was a small circular room with similar wallpaper as the common room and large windows. Each one of them had their own four poster bed, with red duvets and hangings.

Sirius walked over to the bed where his trunk lay at foot and waited others to join him. Today had been a long day. And maybe the best one yet, in his life of eleven years. He took in his surroundings greedily and gazed at the two boys who he had made friends with. He wanted all this to last forever. He wanted this dream to go on further. Yet he knew, tomorrow morning as soon as he wakes up, his father will be there; dragging him towards the Slytherin dungeons, where he belongs. He closed his eyes and prayed one last time before drifting to sleep, that maybe his father won't mind.

Remus lay awake for several hours, even after the other three had gone to sleep, staring at his ceiling and speculating how wonderful it had felt to have friend. He gazed at the round meaty boy lying on the bed beside him, and judging by his weak appearance and shabby deamenour that he probably was also someone who didn't make friends easily. He promised himself that he would help him as he shifted his pillow and went to dream.

"Wake up! Skunk head! Wake up!" Shouted someone in James ears. "I swear if you don't this time I will wet your pants with a bucket of water, I m warning you, Potter."

James rubbed his eyes groggily and pushed his glasses on his face. When his vision came to focus he saw Sirius sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Goodmorning, Black." He smiled.

"Well, we don't have time rite now to see your charming smile. We are already late. Billy took the other first years to the Great hall already. And if we don't hurry, we will be late for class!"

"All rite, I am getting up. Calm down. And be patient."

"I can't be patient. I already am Sirius." And he started laughing hysterically.

When they reached the Great hall Remus and the others had already finished their breakfast.

"Thank god you are awake. The way you were sleeping, I thought you were dead or something." Remus greeted them and shifted to make space.

"It's so kind of you to finally show up, Mr. Potter." Lily said with a sarcastic smile as James took his seat beside Remus.

"Well, I couldn't have left you waiting, could I, love?" James replied, returning a flashing smile.

"What did you just call me?" Lily asked, exasperated.

But James had already leaped from his place and was now trying to catch the letters that fell from the swooping owls above. The Great hall was now covered with haphazardly flying owls of different shapes and sizes. Specks of browns and blacks and whites were now visible below the ceiling, delivering different kinds of parcels to their owners.

James jumped to grab the parcel that the spotted brown owl was dropping off. He snatched the letter and slumped back in his seat. Speckles, the owl landed on the table beside him and James stuffed some treats in its mouth and shooed it off.

He tore open the package and sat inside a lovely packet of assorted candies and liquorice wands. He passed those around and turned his attention to the little envelope that came along.

Dear Jamesie

We are sooo very proud of you. Congratulations on getting into Gryffindor and enjoy your time there, son.

Love,
Momma and Dad.

At the same time on the other side of Remus, Sirius sat with tears threatening to pour out from his eyes anytime now.

He glanced once again, at the letter that came from the family owl, Julius.

Sirius Orion Black

The name of the Black's have never been mocked upon before. But here is the time when in front of the most noblest of families, Black's were humiliated, because of your deeds.

Being sorted into Gryffindor? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! I feel no remorse to tell you that I am absolutely and completely ashamed of you. And it disgusts me to call you my son.

Your father will be there soon. And in no time, you will be back to where you belong. The Slytherin's. But no matter what, you will always be the white spot of shame on the name of the most ancient and noble family of the Black's.

Walburga Black.

Sirius stared and stared at the tiny black letters that said Walburga Black and not mother.
