Chapter 13 Where's Remus?

After the first two classes were over, James and Sirius made their way to the common room with Peter tailing behind, to check on Remus, who had by far not reached any of the classes.

"Where are you three going now?" Came a voice from behind.

"Oh, nowhere, love. We will be right back. Why don't you go and fill your little tummy up in the Great hall." James cooed to a flushed looking Lily.

"Why do you talk to me like I'm a baby? Anyways, if you are going to check on Remus, its no use. I already went to the dorms and searched for him, but he wasn't in the bed or the common room."

"Not in the common room?! Then where the hell did he go?" Exclaimed Sirius.

"Maybe to the hospital wing?" James supplied hopefully.

"Nah, not there either. I just came from there." Lily confirmed.

"Library? Thats his favourite place."

"Yeah, let's go check there. And we can also go ask professor McGonagall, he said last night that he some doubts on the essay he was writing."

"Maybe he's in the Great hall. He woke up late, so maybe he was hungry and went down to eat." Peter said shyly, wanting to be a part of the conversation.

"Not everythings about being hungry, Peter." James snapped.

"Hey! Stop being an asshole. Peter's right we should check there as well." Lily said.

"Okay. Let's split up. I will go to the library. Peter you go check the Great hall and James you go to  professor McGonagalls office."
Sirius guided.

"Oi! I am not going there alone. We are supposed to be in her class right now. Rather we are here talking. So, you see, I don't have a death wish!" James snapped again.

"Oh, such a baby. I will come with you. Is it okay then or are you​ still scared?" Lily asked, imitating James's cooing voice.

Sirius and Peter left for their search points leaving Lily standing alone with James.

James fiddled slightly, feeling a little nervous and unlike himself. He shook his head to clear it and started walking towards the towers where professor McGonagalls office was situated.

Lily watched James's retreating back and hurried to catch up with him. Soon they arrived in front of the transfiguration classroom and knocked.

Lily stuck her head in and was not surprised to see only Alice sitting on one of the benches completing her essay. Professor McGonagall paced in front of the black board looking furious.

When she saw Lily peeking through the door, "Oh! How nice of you Miss Evans to join us today. And I see you have brought Mr. Potter along too!" She said in fake delight.

They both walked down to where she was standing, a grin on James face and Lily's head bowed with shame.

"Professor, we were meaning to ask, if you had seen Remus Lupin anytime today?"

"Mr. Lupin? No. And may I know why would you ask me that, Mr. Potter?"

"He was ailing in the morning, professor. So we left him with some damp towels, you see. But now Evans here claims that she checked the dormitory and the hospital wing but Remus isn't to be found." James explained.

"Oh. I see. Well, I must say that you drop the matter now. Mr. Lupin is fine and will be back soon enough. Until then I want the the four of you, as I presume Mr. Black and Mr. Pettigrew are also involved in your search party, to focus on your lessons. Is that clear?"

"Yes, professor." They chimed together.

"But, do you know, where Remus is exactly?"

"Thats none of your concern, Mr. Potter. He will just be back soon."

"But, we are his friends we ought to know!" James pleaded.

"No, Mr. Potter."

"Please?"

"I said no, Mr. Potter."

"Pleeeeeeeeease???"

"No."

"Oh, professor Minerva pleeeeeeeeease?"

"Mr. Potter!" She said in a slightly raised voice. "You are not to call professors by their first name."

"Ohk then. Pleeeeeease, pleeeeeease, Minnie?"

"Detention, Tomorrow night, my office, if you please."

"Oh, c'mon, Minnie. What, now, we don't even have a right to say 'pleeeeeeeease' anymor- Oww!! What was that for?" He asked Lily who had just taken the initiative to crush his foot.

"To shut you mouth." She said sticking out her tongue.

Oh! She looked cute. James thought, feeling queasy again.

"That's enough. As it is, the lesson is over. You may all proceed to the Great hall now. Mr. Lupin would be back soon, and you lot don't have to worry about him. Now, off you go!"

Lily and Alice gathered their things and started to leave and James followed them.

When he reached the doorway, he stuck his head in, "Professor Minnie?"

"Yes, Mr. Potter?" McGonagall asked through gritted teeth, not at all liking the pet name he was calling her with and also being completely irritated.

"Where is Remus Lupin?" And he ran out in the corridor.
