Attention please read this before reading story!: This chapter takes place when they make it over to the Still Blue and are sitting around the campfire.
Roar and Liv walked down to the beach, but Aria and Perry came with. And then Brooke and Soren, Talon and Molly, and soon everyone followed. Roar started a campfire while everyone took a long look at what it was to be free. Without Sable, without the Aether...in a place where they could be themselves and didn't have to worry about anything. Aria was listening to the new sounds, the branches of the trees swaying, the ocean's tides coming in. They were happy. They were safe. Aria noticed Loran staring at her from across the fire. They were thinking the same thing: they were a family now.
Aria looked up at Perry's green eyes. "How are you doing?"
"Me? I'm doing amazing." Perry wrapped an arm around her, noticing the love in her eyes and her scent.
"This feels right. You're here, Liv's here, no Cinder, but—" Her voice trailed off.
Perry finished her sentence, "But without him we wouldn't be here."
Aria laid her head on his shoulder, and they looked over at Willow in unison. She stared into the fire, looking lonely and lost, a single tear falling down her cheek. And then her gaze went over to Roar and Liv, who were sitting with their arms around each other, looking like they couldn't sit close enough.
Perry looked over at Talon. "Tomorrow we're going fishing."
Aria looked up," Using what kind of bait? Earthworms? Nightcrawlers?" She was referring to when Perry joked about comparing her to a jar of worms.
"Are you ever going to let that go?"
She laughed, "No. Never."
"Fine. Then I love you, my little nightcrawler." He cupped her cheek and his lips found hers, softly brushing over them
"I love you." She looked deeply into his eyes, finding something that was never there before. He really loved her, and she really loved him..
Their gaze moved over to Soren. "No gags? No remarks?" Perry commented.
"Uh–no." The words came out together, as if he was embarrassed about something.
"Oh, please," Brooke huffed, rolling her eyes playfully.
Aria noticed they were sitting closer than they needed to be, and Brooke seemed fine with that. Soren leaned back on his hands. "What? Can't I sit here? Relishing the fire?"
"You're relishing the fire?" Brooke comments.
Soren looked over at Brooke and tried–and failed–to not smile. "Is there something wrong with that? It's pretty." He moved his gaze back to the fire.
"Just like you." He added quietly.
Brooke blushed and continue to watch the fire in silence.
Roar stood up and picked up Jupiter's guitar. He returned and sat next to Aria. He played the opening lines of a song, which Aria and Perry immediately recognized as the Hunter's Song.
Aria rubbed her hands together in eagerness. "My favorite!"
Perry knew it wasn't true. It was his favorite. But like what Aria said, whatever his favorite was now Aria's favorite.
Aria started to sing, "Light of dawn in the hunter's eyes," Roar joined in, "Home unfurls inside his mind."
Slowly, the night started getting quieter, people were falling asleep. They didn't know what would happen in their future, or where it would take them. But as Aria was being held in the arms of the hunter she loved, all she could do was hope.
