"You must be mad!" my brother exclaims.
"How? What's so wrong about me loving Arthur?"
"(Y/n), he's the king. Like I said, you must be mad."
"He's not so bad. And besides, he's more of a queen than a king." We laugh at our little inside joke. Gwaine started it, I just carried it on.
"Nice to know what you think, (Y/n), I must say." I turn to see Arthur leaning against the door as Gwaine tries to stop laughing his head off. His face goes straight after a swift smack in the stomach.
"You never were the delicate type, were you?"
"When he's got older brother, you can't be soft, Sire," I comment, my idiotic brother's face failing to conceal some pain. "Can I help you?"
"I wanted to talk to you about something. Privately, if we may," Arthur asks quietly, almost as if it's a sin for him to say it.
"Of course." I turn to my brother who's now leaning against a chair. "I'll see you later, big brother!"
I smile and turn to the door as Arthur goes over to Gwaine.
"You should follow your own advice. Don't mess with your sister."
"Thanks, Sire." He replies sarcastically as Arthur just laughs. I wink as we leave the room, Gwaine's hand in the air acting as a goodbye.
We walk up to Arthur's room in silence. Despite the fact we are side by side, we have no real contact until we go through the oaken door.
"So how did he take it?" Arthur asks as he pours us a cup of water each.
"He said - and I quote - you're mad."
"Oh, so you're mad now? How's he going to be when I tell him about the other thing."
"What other thing?"
"It's fine. You needn't concern yourself with it."
"Arthur."
"(Y/n)."
I roll my eyes and drink, my head shaking slightly.
"What did you want to talk to me about anyway?"
"Nothing. I just wanted to be alone with you."
I smile at his sweetness as I walk around the table and kiss him. His arms come around me and I feel his hand on the back of my neck. I never feel safer anywhere else than I do in Arthur's arms. It's the perfect moment.
And then someone knocks. I sigh as I'm forced to leave Arthur to make it seem as if we were just talking.
"Enter."
"You are needed in the council chambers, Sire." The guard says as his head peers around the door.
"I'm sorry," Arthur says apologetically, his hand reaching for his sword before leaving.
* Arthur's P.O.V
Once the meeting is over, I call Gwaine over to talk.
"It's about your sister. "
"What's she done?"
"Nothing. It's something I want to do."
"Go on."
"I wouldn't do it without asking you, because, well, she's your sister and I wouldn't want to offend you. But, I want to ask (Y/n) to marry me. Do you object?"
He stands looking at me completely speechless.
"You want to marry my sister. As in (Y/n)!"
"Yes."
"Then I shouldn't stop you. But can I speak freely?"
"Of course."
He leans in closely. Whatever it is, he doesn't want it to be heard.
"If you hurt her, I will make you pay for it personally. King or not, she is all the family I have left, and if she is hurt in anyway, you will know. You will take good care of her, won't you?"
Gwaine is never like this, so he means business.
"I understand. She's your sister. I wouldn't dare. I give you my word, I will never hurt her, and I will never let anyone else hurt her."
He nods. He's happy.
"If you'll excuse me, Sire." He bows and walks away, leaving me stood alone in the hall. I call over Merlin and tell him to make sure that two horses are saddled and waiting in the courtyard. He nods and I run back up the stairs to where I suppose (Y/n) will be.
"Arthur," she sighs. She's clearly annoyed after being interrupted earlier, but who wouldn't be.
"How would you like to go for a ride?"
"Where?"
"Into the forest. I know somewhere where we can be alone. I've asked the kitchens to prepare us some food."
"Sounds delightful."
*(Y/n) 's P.O.V
We dismount our horses beside this little river deep into the woods. Merlin lays out a blanket and Arthur helps me to the ground. He sticks his sword in the ground and lies down beside of me, his hand resting on my hip.
"I want to ask you something," he begins. "Something very important. Life changing."
He sighs slightly as he takes my hands in his, his eyes staring into mine.
"(Y/n), I don't know how I've gone this long without saying what I want to say. I love you. I always have. I always will. I cannot think of anyone else I would rather spend my life with than you. (Y/n), would you do me the honour of being my wife?"
He produces a gold ring from his pocket in the shape of a dragon. I'm taken aback by it, by Arthur's actions. I didn't realise he could be this romantic.
"Arthur, darling, of course. Of course I will marry you!"
Tears begin to well up in my eyes at the thought of having Arthur all to myself. We will be happy together, I know it. And it's what Gwaine would want - for me to be happy.
After all, it's all he's ever wanted.
*A/n: This was for Outoftea. It was her idea, just like most of these actually, but she has some amazing ideas. I hope you enjoyed it and it was what you wanted!
