Harry walked through the airport looking for his friend, Liam. Suitcase following behind him, and people pushing past him. Across the room, he sees Liam standing next to the coffee shop. Harry makes his way over there, and makes eye contact with Liam.
"Hey mate! Glad you're home, have a nice trip?" Liam asks while patting Harry on the back.
"Hey, thank you for doing this man! Flight was utter shit, and I wish I was home for a different reason." Harry shrugged.
"Oh, yeah. I heard about that, you guys broke up." Liam frowned and led Harry outside to his car. "It's okay, Mate. There are plenty of more broads in the city that will gladly help you forget her." Liam chuckled. Harry's blood boiled, he didn't want to just 'forget' Keely.
"No thank you. I'm here to just move on, not forget her." Harry stared angrily.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." Liam unlocked the car and got into the drivers side. Harry put his suitcase in the trunk.
"It's okay. I just can't wait to see my mum." Harry said while climbing into the car. The rest of the drive was spent in silence, Harry used this time to stare out the window as life went past him all around. His mind wandered to blue eyes and black hair. A big toothy grin and a loud laugh hit him in his heart. He blinked back some tears as they pulled up to his childhood home. Ann, Harry's mother, was waiting outside for her baby to come home. Her face lit up when she saw the car and she smiled even harder when she saw Harry. Tears spilled down her face as Harry climbed out of the car. Liam grabbed Harry's luggage as Ann engulfed Harry in a big hug.
"Hello mum. I love you." Harry squeezed her back.
"My baby. I missed you so much. Don't ever stay gone for that long again. How's Keely? How was LA? Did you make lots of friends?" Ann pulled away.
"Oh. Mum, Keely and I broke up.."
"What? What did she do? Are you okay?"
"She needs time to figure her life out, Mum. It's okay. Let's go inside, yeah?" Harry forced a smile. Ann let the boys in and made some tea. Liam said his goodbyes and kissed Ann's cheek before leaving to head off to work. Ann sat across from Harry in the living room.
"So, Harry. What really happened?" Ann questioned.
"Mum, Keely did somethings that weren't good for her health. So I broke up with her and decided to move back. I really don't want to get into it though." Harry put his head in his hands and sighed.
"I hate seeing you like this. I know she meant a lot to you, baby. Do you think it's forever or just a temporary thing?" Ann looked at Harry with concern.
"I hope just temporarily." Harry began to stand, "I'm going to go sleep, Mum. Jet lag and different time zones really fuck you up. I love you." Harry kissed Ann on the cheek and walked upstairs to his old room. He laid down on the bed and let out some tears.
Harry really didn't want this to end, he loves Keely so much. It made his heart ache to know she was home alone, and that he probably won't be coming back. But they both need to move on, no matter how bad it hurts. Harry drifted off to sleep thinking about the girl he expected to spend the rest of his life with.
*********
Harry awoke later on that night, it was 9pm in England. 1pm in LA, which means Keely is probably at work. Harry thinks about the apartment and how he knows Keely will not be able to afford it by herself, he knows she'll be upset if he sends her money to pay for his half. Pulling out his phone, his heart ached. The screen lit up with a picture of them, Keely with her big toothy grin, Harry's arms wrapped around her waist. They looked happy. He slid his fingers across Keely's face, wishing he was actually touching her skin. It took him a few moments, but he was able to move forward and go onto their landlords website and log on. Rent will be due soon, and since Harry feels like he abandoned her, the least he can do is pay rent. He decides to pay the full amount so Keely won't have to stress about the bills on top of rent. He knows Keely will be upset that he took it upon himself, how her brow will furrow and she'll make that pouty face he loves. Running a hand through his hair, he let out a frustrated cry.
"Honey, it's mum. Do you want to maybe talk about it now?" Ann said while leaning against the outside of the door.
"Not really, mum. But it's probably best to get it off my chest. Come in." Harry sat on the side of his bed. Ann walked in and gave Harry a kiss on his forehead before sitting down.
It didn't take long for Harry to spill his guts, from all the nights out to the the drugs. Keely not coming home to driving herself home and not remembering it. The fact that often she couldn't remember her nights. Keely was fucking poison, but Harry wouldn't want to die any other way. Ann made commentary at the right times, and after Harry finished she gave him some wisdom.
"Harry, I know how much you love that girl. She may be doing dangerous stuff, but so did you. At an even younger age, I might add. You need to give her some credit, she's young. She'll learn. Just like you did, but do not beat yourself up over leaving. You took yourself out of a toxic relationship-" Ann began to spill out.
"It was not toxic." Harry interrupted.
"Harry, it was toxic. You need to admit that, you guys were together but fought often. Over silly things."Anne summed up. Harry's eyes filled with tears as he realized she was right, no way around that.
They were fucking awful for each other.
But that's what made it so right.
Harry put his head in his hands.
"I just don't know if I'll ever be able to move on, mum. I love her so much that my heart swells when i see her. Leaving her makes my whole body ache, I feel empty." Harry let out in a sob. Ann rubbed his back as he continued on, "She makes everything feel like home. Home is never a place, it's a person. My home is in LA, she has black hair and blue eyes. A kind heart and a big smile. She's intelligent and sarcastic. But what if that isn't enough? What am I supposed to do? Move on? Be alone? Because no one will ever fucking compare to her, and I don't want anyone else."
Harry continued to breakdown, as Keely did the same thousands of miles away.
