"No one in the world could stop me from not moving on,
Baby, even if I wanted to.
Nobody compares to you."
- Nobody Compares // One Direction (i had to)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
calum is sitting down in an uncomfortable wooden chair at a small and sticky table in a cheap, poorly lit restaurant. he originally wondered why he hasn't eaten here before, but now he knows it's because it's cheap and gross.
almost as cheap and gross as the boy sitting at the table across from him.
"so, do you go to school, or work, or...?" calum tries to start a conversation with his date, who is currently fixing his unruly brown hair while looking at his reflection in a spoon. he looks towards calum and then shrugs.
"well, i had a desk job for a bit. it was so boring, like, i would just sit there and want to kill myself because i was so bored out of my mind, you know?" george speaks and starts laughing a lot harder than he should. he didn't even say anything funny. calum nearly cringes at the annoying sound that was drawing attention of the people around them. "so i quit and now i'm more self employed."
"oh, that's interesting. what do you do?"
george looks like he doesn't know how to answer the simple question. at this point, calum doubts he does anything other than sleep and eat in his mother's basrment. before the long haired boy could give an answer, the waitress comes with their food. calum looks down sadly on it. poor presentation, poor smell. he doesn't want to eat it.
"oh. this is not what i wanted, i was hoping for a whole grain bun. i can't eat this!" george says rudely to the waitress. the girl looks very confused, like she doesn't know what to say.
"sorry, sir. we don't have whole grain-"
"unbelievable!" he shakes his head and looks at calum like he should feel sorry for him. "fine, whatever. i'll eat it, alright?"
calum sits through the rest of dinner to be polite, but he really doesn't want to spend another second with his date or ever see him again. why is it so hard to find a nice, normal guy? it's not like he's asking for much. just someone considerate, kind, maybe with a sense of humor who is willing to have fun. someone like luke.
sure it's been nearly a year since they broke up, but calum still missed him a lot. he still loved him a lot.
george starts talking again, calum pretends to listen. "you know, this is great. the last guy i dated was a total dick. we went out to a movie and he kept moving away when i tried to make a move. who doesn't try to make out during a movie? like, if he didn't like me he should have just said som-"
"i can't do this!" calum shouts, maybe a little too loud, but he's just frustrated. george looks taken back. "i'm really sorry, mate. i need to go, this isn't going to work."
calum stands up, putting fifteen dollars down on the table before walking out. george had driven him there, but calum rather walk a little farther home then have to spend more time with the guy. by the time he walks into his house half an hour later, it's dark outside. he throws his coat down and kicks off his shoes, making his way to him room. he's so relieved to be home after that mess of a date. he flops down on his bed with an exasperated sigh.
"bad day?" michael says sarcastically and chuckles as he looks up from his nintendo ds towards his best friend lying next to him. calum lifts his head up from the pillow that he face planted into to look up at his friend sitting next to him but under the covers.
