"So let me think of how to word it.

Is it too soon to say 'Perfect'?"

it was when calum was sixteen and luke was fifteen that they first started to like each other. they hadn't confessed their feelings for each other, but it was clear to everyone other than themselves that there was something going on. they had started spending more time together, just the two of them. they insisted it was just because they were becoming closer as friends, but they both secretly hoped for more.

this was one of those times. calum had seen luke at his locker putting his books away and laughing at something the guy next to him said.

"he-uh, hey luke!" calum called out to the boy as he walked over to him. luke turned around and when his bright blue eyes met brown ones, calum swore he was hit in the gut.

"hi, cal! what's up?" he cheerfully spoke as he zipped up his bag and shut his locker.

"okay." calum took a deep breath "do you maybe wanna come over and you could stay for dinner? if you're not already busy, no pressure." he said nervously. he cursed himself for being nervous. he's known luke his whole life, why is he suddenly afradi that luke is going to hate him now? luke waved a goodbye to the guy he had just been talking to as he listened to calum speak.

"nope, no plans. your house sounds lovely to me!" he walked through the school halls, passing people qickly without bumping anyone. calum followed on his tail, luke didn't understand why he was behind him, and tried to keep up with the blond's pace. he had unusually long legs that calum thought were quite nice, but it meant luke could travel farther. when they get outside the school doors, the shorter boy finally caught up as he let out a breath.

"so, ho was your day?" luke started a conversationas they walked. calum didn't live too far away from school, so they would just walk a few minutes to his house. calum shivered knowing he should have brought a jacket to school and he had to accept that it wasn't summer anymore. he moved closer to luke for warmth, brushing shoulders and hoped that he wouldn't notice.

"it was alright. i got an a on my biology test, so i'm happy with that." he said causing luke to look over at him with a smile of adoration on his face. he admired calum's features for a few seconds and almost tripped because he wasn't paying attention to where he was walking.

"that's awesome!"

"what about you, how was your day?" and they continue making pleasant small talk, unconsciously walking closer and closer to each other. their hands kept brushing together and luke kept looking down. he really wanted to hold calum's hand, but he knew calum would think that was weird. friends don't hold hands, but maybe luke wanted to be more than that.

when they eventually reached calum's house, no one was home. usually joy would be home by then, but sometimes she worked late. calum called his mom to see what was up as he unlocked the door.

"hey mum. where are you?" he asked as he opened the door, gesturing for luke to walk in and closed the door behind him.

"hi, hun. i'm taking some overtime tonight, so you're on your own for dinner." she paused and there was some rustling on the other end of the phone. "sorry cal, i gotta go. love you!"

luke stood there awkwardly and waited for the boy to be done speaking with his mother. he smiled when calum hung up.

"looks like we can eat anything we want! what would you like for dinner?" he asked as he led luke to the kitchen. the blond pondered for a while before he had a great idea.
