Anakin P.O.V.
"And, Yeah, that's basically it." I wrung my hands nervously. Padme and I stood in front of her car in the ROTS parking lot. Her face was completely blank as she took in my words; I was leaving ROTS for an amount of time I wasn't sure."You're... leaving. For FAH. For basketball. And you don't know how long..." Padme said slowly.
I nodded. We were silent for a second as she continued to process.
"I'm really sorry angel. I know we've only been dating for a few weeks and now I'm just leaving but..." I trailed off, unable to find something happy in the situation.
You'll still be on this side of town, right?" She asked softly.
"I thought so... but they told me they need me on that side. Cause it be an hour commute and they need me to be ready for conditioning every morning and late practices. I'll be leasing an apartment. Courtesy of the school."
I watched as tears filled her brown eyes. "Padme..."
I stepped forward and hugged her. We stood there for a moment; me reassuredly rubbing her back and Padme sniffling in my chest. Finallly, she pulled back and braved a smile. "I can visit you. It's gonna be fine."
I kissed her head and pulled her back in. "Yeah, I'm not moving across the state."
"I'll miss you." Padme whispered.
"I'll miss you too." My heart pounded a little. We hadn't laid the L word yet. Was I too soon. Maybe. But it seemed a perfect moment,
"I love you." I said softly.
Padme looked up at me, a big smile on her face. "I love you too." Up on her tiptoes, she kissed me on the lips. I held her tighter and lifted her off the ground a little. It was probably the best kiss I'd ever had. And it would have lasted longer, if not for Rex.
"Alright love birds. Cut it out. Anakin needs to have at least be allowed to show up to his new school with his face attached."
Padme pulled away and glared fiercely at Rex. "Rex Cooper don't you dare tell me how to react to my boyfriend leaving the school."
Rex let out a nervous laugh. "Sorry Padme, But we really do have to go."
She turned back to look at me. Her eyes were still glistening with tears and she had a small smile on her face. "Your moving tonight?"
"Yeah, Obi's helping me."
"You want me to come?"
I smiled. "I'd love too. You could visit Rey too."
Padme glowed. "What time should I be over?"
"4:30?"
"Ok, I'll go home and change and then be over."
Padme pecked me on the lips again and smiled. She opened her car door and stepped in. "Be careful Rex, might bump you on the way out." She gave him a wicked grin as she shut her car door.
I laughed as Rex's face turned white. "Ok, I'll look out.". We waved as she drove away. When the car was out of our sight, Rex turned to me. "She's heart broken. She's always mean when she's heartbroken."
I held my face in my hand, "I know. I can't believe I'm leaving the school like this."
"Do you think you guys will break up?" Rex questioned.
I looked up sharply at him. "Break up? No. Why would we do that?"
"Woah calm down. I'm just saying. Long distance is hard."
