Time To Make The Call

The next morning Kumiko tried to get Reina to stay in bed just like any other day

And just like any other day Reina had to get up and ready to go play

"Now honey I want you to have figured out what you want to say to Taki Sensei by the time I get back ok?"

Kumiko groaned as she went towards the door to say goodbye to her wife

"Ok, I'll call him and tell him that I accept if no one else has."

Reina leaned in to give her a quick goodbye kiss but Kumiko purposefully held on longer. Once they parted all Kumiko could do was go and wash the dishes as she thought of what to say

'Ugh, what will I even say? Hey Taki sensei, I accept your offer? Do I ask if I can still conduct? God I can't come up with anything'

Finally after some self arguing Kumiko decided to do it the Kumiko way and just hope it goes well.

She picked up to call, heart racing

'Am I ready?'

"Hello, Kumiko?" The person in the other line picked up

"Hi Taki sensei! I was wondering if the conductor offer was still up?" Kumiko basically asked

"Yes, it is. Have you decided to conduct?"

"Yes, I have, it's the least I could do."

"That's great! Can you come to school today for the rehearsal today?" Taki sensei questioned

"Yes sir, I'll swing by! Usual time?"

"Yes, alright good bye Kumiko"

"Bye sensei"

And that was that, she had a job at the place she wished for when she entered college. Before this she and the other Kitauji alumni band members worked as clinicians for sectionals, some still do.

------ Kitauji, 8 years prior------
"Ahhhh OUMAE CHAN!!!" was the only warning she had before several old friends hugged her all at once

Asuka Tanaka, her section leader when she had just joined stood there and chuckled with Kaori and Haruka

"What's so funny Tanaka senpai?" asked Mizore

"Aaah, Mizore chan I told you to call me Asuka. You guys are the funny ones, you haven't changed one bit since our last encounter "

"Like you've changed much Asuka?" Kaori intervened

"Kaori, the grown ups are talking"

"Still talking out of your ass I hear, Asuka senpai?"

*exaggerated gasp*" Oumae chan! Kaori is right here, you can't swear!"

"Yeah Oumae chan what the fuck" Natsuki practically yelled

"I swear you guys can never have a nice conversation, can you? Hello everyone it is nice to see you here again." Haruka started

There was a mini chorus of yes mams and hellos

They once again split into their old groups to catch up

"Sooo Kumiko, where's your trumpet player girlfriend?" Natsuki asked

She knew that Reina was in the room, close enough to make eye contact with to signal over and she knew Natsuki's words got the Third Year Trio's and Yuuko's full attention. They were going to clearly mess with her so she thought 'eh, might as well go along with it'

Kumiko made eye contact with Reina and began to speak

"Shes not my girlfriend anymore"

The others were shocked, they were right where she wanted them

"That's right, I'm not her girlfriend, I'm just her roommate."

They all practically screamed Kousaka san at the voice

"You're kidding right?" Yuuko checked

"No, in fact" Kumiko began " we haven't been together in that way since about a year and a half I believe?"

"Yes. That is true" Reina added

"Then how come you live together?" Kaori asked

"We decided to live here since we went to the same college and our jobs don't got out of area often"

Kaori just smiled and hummed at Reina's response. She knew what was up the second she noticed the way they softly avoided the questions, only answering just the right amount to satisfy their audience

Other people showed up to volenteer help the students practice and the night went on without a problem.

"How about you guys come over to eat and catch up?" Kumiko asked

They all looked at each other and agreed

Kaori decided she would have to let them know with subtle ways they could tell

She looked bothe of them in their eyes and asked innocently

"If that's ok with your roommate, or will there be a problem?" She smiled. One Reina picked up on, the same one she used to let the section know she was teasing them

"No problem at all, I believe this would be a great opportunity, to have a moment after college together." Reina made eye contact with Kaori senpai

Kumiko began to seperate them

"Alright then let's go"
