(Song: No Angel by Birdy)

Just when we think we’ve figured things out, the universe throws us a curveball. So we have to improvise. We find happiness in unexpected places. We find our way back to the things that matter the most. The universe is funny that way. Sometimes it just has a way of making sure we wind up exactly where we belong.

Remember once the things you told me
And how the tears ran from my eyes
They didn't fall because it hurt me
I just hate to see you cry

"So, what have I been missing from my little daughter's life?" Abigail asked, from the back seat of the car, after about twenty minutes of stony silence.

"Nothing, mom. Just same old, same old," Clarke replied monotonously.

"Oh it can't be the same old, can it? You're married now. How're things with Lexa?" Abby asked, trying to bridge the distance that had crept up between Clarke and her, since the marriage.

"I'm good. Everything's great. That's it pretty much," Clarke said, stealing a furtive glance at Raven seating next to her in the driver's seat.

"Your friends are here, you must be happy, right?" Abby said, trying to make conversation.

"She doesn't particularly like our  company anymore, Abby" Raven said, from the front seat. "She's a true blue Grounder now."

Clarke bit back a response, realizing that there was no point making the situation any worse than it already was.

"Clarke's cool," Bellamy said from beside Abby, trying to alleviate the situation. "I'm just glad to go back home."

Abby gave a weak smile, acknowledging Bellamy's response, wondering what was going on with her daughter.

She craned her neck to see Lexa riding behind them with a few people of her own.

Clarke looked at her mother's worried face on the driver's mirror, and felt a twinge of guilt.

"I'm alright, mom. Don't look so worried. I'm just a little tired."

Abby smiled comfortingly. "I know. I saw you kids have a lot of fun at the Harvest Festival last night."

"I had the time of my life," Raven said with a straight face.

"I'm glad you had fun, Raven," Abby smiled. Bellamy and Clarke shifted in their seats uncomfortably.

Sometimes I wish we could be strangers
So I didn't have to know your pain
But if I kept myself from danger
This emptiness would feel the same

Clarke looked out of the window, hair blowing in the wind. She breathed in the musty scent of the forest and closed her eyes for a bit. She was going home, even if it was for a day. She would get to meet Monty and Jasper after so long!

She stared at the rear view mirror.

Lexa was riding just behind them, followed closely by Indra and Lincoln.  She couldn't see the others riding far behind.

Lexa on her dark black horse, her red cape flying behind her. Her face smeared with warpaint. The same face that was kissing her last night. The same face that had pushed her away.
