History class breezed by, and so did Algebra II. Lunch had approached and Caroline found herself eating in the library. It was the best place to be, it was quiet and everyone was focused on something. This meant no one would bother Caroline and she could eat and read away as much as she wanted.
Once she finished her ham sandwich, she eyed at the large, leather book. Across the cover in golden lettering it read, "Finding your Magic - EDITION ONE". Usually, kids would figure out what their magic pool was in middle school when it was fully developed, but Caroline was a different case. She wanted to trigger her magic to come out. She's never seen it but she feels it.
While flipping through the multiple, thin pages filled with demographics and paragraphs, she slammed her head down. Others around her were startled and then shook their head in annoyance. Caroline wanted to sob tears of frustration! She concluded that perhaps she should just leave the world of magic and live off as a normal human being, somewhere far in the country.
She sighed and pushed the book away and went on to read another one, "The History of Covens". The first several pages introduced the first covens to ever exist, on that list it included her own coven. Coven of Grandiss, she read in a curious whisper. She proceeded to flip to the Coven's own page. There it listed on the previous leaders and their accomplishments. Countless names that Caroline herself had never heard of. At the very end of the list read her mother's name, Grandelle. That's when Caroline immediately closed the book.
"You'll be great like your mother!"
"You HAVE her power flowing inside of you."
"Caroline, you'll bring glory to our coven's name."
Caroline's mind flooded with all the things her coven members had said to her in the past. High expectations. Expecations SHE knew she could never meet unless she did something to activate her magic. What could that SOMETHING possibly be?
Then the bell rang for fourth period, the dreaded subject of hers...Magic Theory.

Walking to the class took some time since it was in the second building, left of the main building. Wooden double doors were open wide for students to enter and the place oozed of talent. Above, there was a silver plated sign that read "MAGIC DEPARTMENT" in golden glowing, bold lettering. Multiple students here were of high ranks and only the best could enter the Magic Department. Of course, there was the alternative 'Magic Theory' class available for those who are falling behind. They were the only ones who didn't really fit in the 'best in class'.
Being surrounded by egotistical assholes who thought being the best meant belittling others, sickened Caroline. Although, she ignored the sneers and laughter when the others saw her enter the Magical Theory class. She immediately shut the door behind her, and looked around the classroom with a nervous smile.
No one didn't mind that she closed the door, they all probably wished for that so they could be left alone. There was only around ten students in the class, including Caroline. They all sat in the small auditorium-ish class in one row where they all fitted.
Everyone in the class was capable of using some form of magic, excluding Caroline of course.
Their current class assignment was to create a spell unique to their own ability. Something that would aid them to escape trouble or anything under the defensive section.
Caroline was frustrated because she absolutely had no power to use, and if she wanted to pass she had to complete the assignment. Her teacher would ignore her pleads because there's no way someone magicless could enter the academy to begin with.
Thing is, Caroline was permitted to the school because of her Coven's reputation among the society of witches and warlocks.
She nibbled on her bottom lip, and looked over the paper over the assignment. Perhaps she could just make a potion, that would work right? It probably wouldn't be considered a spell but it's better that nothing.
So, Caroline proceeded to write down on the blank line, potion of sleepiness.

A few explanations about the terms tossed around in the story.Magic Theory is the practice of creating new spells, runes, or potions. It's considered a low level subject because most magic is self-made.
Witches and Warlocks are not the only magic practitioners in this universe. There's mages and other occupations ;) that I won't list for now.
History of Magic/Covens speaks for itself, I hope.
Humanity came first, then magic!
