Not So Typical

It was just like any other Saturday night in Brighton, Elsa and Kate had dragged me to some bar that was way too small to have this many people in it. The air around me was more cigarette smoke than oxygen, all the ice in my drink had melted and I was so tired of drinking that I didn’t even care.

“Mel, come on let’s dance” Elsa said grabbing my hand and trying to remove me from the bar stool in which I had firmly been sitting for the past hour.

“No, I’m fine. You two go, have fun! I’ll be right here, yeah? Purse watch duty!”

I got disapproving looks from them both but they shimmied towards a group of guys without me. I shook my head at them and turned my attention to my phone. I was scrolling endlessly through Twitter when suddenly cold liquid doused me from behind.

“Oi! I am so sorry, my mates just shoved me from behind” the curly haired bean pole said setting the now empty glass on the bar. He grabbed a handful of napkins and started patting my shoulder.

“I-It’s fine” I said standing up and grabbing my own handful of napkins. He stood there looking at me, he obviously felt bad but there was nothing he could really do at this point. What was done was done.

“I uh…I’m really sorry. Let me buy you a drink to make up for it, yeah? What are you having” he asked rushing his words altogether, his accent was definitely not from around here, I liked it.

“Its alright, I’m not really in the drinking mood tonight, but thanks for offering. I’m fine, really” I said flashing a smile and giving up on my shirt, it was as dry as it was going to get.

“Not drinking in a bar, eh. That is a bit ironic don’t you think? But if you so insist…what did you say your name was again” he asked with a chuckle. We both rightly knew that neither of us had said our names, but he had this cute dimple that charmed me into telling him.

“Melody, but my friends just call me Mel. And yours?”

“Harry” he said sticking his right hand out and offering a smile, “Harry Styles.”
