Harry's POV
I had been sitting here for three hours listening to her type and groan, I didn't even mind.
"You okay, love" I asked quietly after she had to started to curse the creation of math, you would think she hated her job.
"I'm fine, there is just so much to be done and not enough time. Really though, you don't have to stay with me, it's getting late and I know you have work in the morning" she said turning her chair to face me.
I got up from my chair against the wall and crossed her rather large office. I perched on her desk, between her and the computer, causing her to have quite the laugh. I'm sure it was definitely a sight to see with my large frame on this small desk.
"Mel, it's late. You need to eat. And sleep. Come on, you can finish tomorrow yeah?"
I reached for her hands and pulled her to her feet as I planted mine firmly on the floor and stood up from the desk.
"But Harry, there is so much I re-"
"Mel, you're going home whether you walk out of here holding my hand or I lift you over my shoulder. Now which is it" I asked lifting an eyebrow and placing my hand on my hip like my lovely mum did when she gave me this speech.
"Fine, fine, I'll go willingly although option number two does sound quite amusing" she said through a laugh.
"Well, that can be arranged." I reached down and went to lock my hands behind her knees and toss her over my shoulder.
"No, no! I was kidding, don't you dare!"
I backed away laughing and let her gather her things.
"I really do appreciate you keeping me company although I wasn't the best company to keep." She looked up at me with kind eyes and a bright smile as she grabbed my hand.
"No worries, the pleasure was all mine" I said with a smile and rubbing my thumb along side her hand. Suddenly she stopped walking and pulled me to a stop with her.
"Harry can I ask you something?''
"Anything, go for it."
"Can I kiss y-"
Before she could finish I pushed my lips gently against hers. "Hey love, you never have to ask" I whispered pulling away.
We started walking and made it to the lift at the end of the hallway. 19 floors and a few kisses later we were walking out of the front door.
"Harry, I can walk home from here alone. I promise, you get a cab and get some sleep. You don't have to walk me home."
"How did you know I was going to ask to walk you home" I asked pretending to be shocked. She knew I would never let her walk home alone.
"Because you're you" she smiled squeezing my hand.
"What if we both get the same cab and it takes you home first and then me, that way I know you made it home and then you won't have to walk the streets alone at night, yeah?"
I could tell she wasn't buying it but she knew there was no other option.
"You say that as if I had a choice" she laughed shaking her head at my persistence.
"Exactly, now let's find us a cab."
It was a little cold out, a lot colder than it was when I had put on this button down. I could really use my coat right now but it looked so much better on her that I couldn't even consider asking for it back.
"Ooh here's one, c'mon! You have to be freezing!" She tugged my hand and led me over to the stopped vehicle.
I pulled open the door and let her climb in first and I followed. She called out her address and we buckled up.
I felt her head rest on my shoulder and I wrapped my arm around and pulled her body closer.
"Hey Mel, can I ask you something" I said quietly looking down at her big brown eyes.
"Anything, go for it" she chuckled.
"Be my girlfriend?"
I heard her suck in a gulp of air and I started to prepare myself for the worst. She was damaged, I knew that. I didn't care though, she was well put together and confident and quirky and she was just not the typical girl I was used to dating. She was better. I could handle her baggage, I would handle her baggage, as long as I got her out of it.
"Harry you know that I'm kind of a mess...."
"You aren't a mess, you're human. You have issues, we can work through them. I would haven't asked if I didn't want it Mel...if I didn't want you."
She sat up and turned to look straight into my eyes. It felt like she was probing straight into my soul and looking for any inkling that I would break her heart. I had never felt something so intense in my life.
"I won't be able to handle two heartbreaks in a row...you have to promise to take it slow."
"Is that a yes" I asked letting a hopeful smile spread across my face.
"Yes, Mr. Styles. I will be your girlfriend." Her smile was bright and my heart was racing.
Not even a minute later the cab pulled in front her flat. I opened the door and stepped out so that she could exit.
"Goodnight Harry" she whispered as she went onto her tiptoes and gave me a hug.
I pushed her back gently and pulled her face to mine. It was slow and passionate and it held all of the hope that I had for where this would go and it completely took my breath away.
"Night Mel" I smiled as she stood there flushed.
The cab driver started yelling at us to pay or he was going to call the cops. I refused to let her pay of course. I watched her walk inside the door before I climbed inside and told him my address.
It wasn't until I was in bed and underneath the blanket that it finally hit me that she was mine. Mel was my proper girlfriend. I squealed. Out loud. Like a teenage girl. I slapped my hand over my mouth hoping my flat mates didn't hear but when door busted open I knew they did.
"Styles did you just make that noise or is there some lovely bird under those covers?"
"Do you think you would standing there if there was? It was a um...video."
"Uh-huh sure, you know I don't believe you mate but you just get back to what you were doing" the short ginger boy laughed as he went to step out of the room.
"Oh wait, Ed! Tomorrow night, you, me and Niall are meeting some girls at this club. You're welcome. Now you can leave."
"Sweet mate! Thank you! You are the serious best!"
The door clicked shut and I heard him run into Niall's room on the other side of mine. I pulled the covers over my head and went to sleep with a smile on my face and Mel in my heart.
