As I recalled the fireball back into my skin, the rest of my parabatai stayed silent. Clary and the others stared at me for a second like I was an object foreign to their environment until I stood up and walked away from the four of them. I ended up standing next to Alice, a stone-cold stare enveloping my face. After about five minutes, Clary was the first to speak, "How did you do that? How long have you been able to do that?" I avoided meeting any of their gazes as I muttered, "I've had these abilities for a little over five years, I simply just think what I want the fire to do, and it does it." Clary stared at me for a second, before returning to the matter at hand, "I still don't understand. How can Shadowhunters be better than what you people call mundanes?" Sebastian spoke for the first time this evening, "Because we protect humans." Clary turned to the taller Shadowhunter, sarcasm dripping from her words, "You're right. Humans. You protect humans. You all left Simon all alone in the van, and none of the six of you new guys did anything. Great job, guys. You rock." Alec shrugged as he muttered, "There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense." Jace shook his head, "Alec, not now." Hailey then meekly spoke up, "Look, Clary, they won't do anything to Simon. They just wanted to draw you out." I nodded, "They want the Cup, and they think you have it." Clary shook her head as she took a few steps away from the rest of my parabatai, "But why do they think that? Why does anyone think that? What, my mom lies to me my entire life except, 'Oh, by the way, there's this magic cup, I hid on, like, the planet Bongo, but don't tell anyone.' What am I supposed to do now?" Sebastian shifted his weight onto his right leg as he muttered, "We could just track the vamps to their current location. Peter, Hailey, one of you guys could-" Alec shook his head, "We have to report to the Clave." Vivian rolled her eyes as she leaned on Hailey's shoulder, "Great plan Mr. Lightwood."
Alec glared Vivian for a second as he continued, "They have to know what we've learned about Valentine." Clary turned to face Alec whilst gesturing to where Simon was dangling just a few minutes ago, "What, that he's my father? Great. Fine. Tell them. What good does that do Simon?" I went to place a hand on Clary's shoulder but she took a step back, "Clary, it's all connected. The vamps want the Cup." Clary just glared at me as she asked, "Why?" I looked at my parabatai for support, and Sebastian answered, "It makes new Shadowhunters. Nobody wants Valentine forming an army loyal to himself." Hailey piped into the conversation again, "Plus, it controls demons. They'll propose a trade. Simon for the Cup." Clary huffed as she kept looking at where Simon was, "So, vampires will trade Simon for the Cup and Valentine will trade my mother for the Cup. Either way, I lose someone I love. What if I just toss it up in the air and let them fight it out among themselves?" Jace scoffed, which made Sebastian growl under his breath, "So this doesn't matter to you?" Clary shook her head as she confronted Jace, "Yes, of course, it matters! Listen when you saved my life I put my trust in you." Clary then took a second to regain her breath and calmly spoke, "Now, I need you to put your trust in me. I can't turn into what you are overnight." Isabelle nodded, taking Clary's side, "It's true. She was raised as a mundane." Alec rolled his eyes as he glared at his sister, "What are you, her spokesman now?" Clary shook her head, quickly cutting Alec off, "I don't need a spokesman, I need a plan."
I didn't realize that I had spaced out until Alice snapped her fingers in front of me, "Earth to Kai? Anyone home?" I jolted back to my senses, only to feel more fatigued, "S-Sorry Alice. I just don't feel good right now." She placed the back of her hand on my forehead, myself watching Clary and the others begin to depart, "Your forehead's cold." I heard Clary mumble worriedly to Jace, "Is Kai okay? He looks pale." Jace turned around and looked me over before calling out to Alice, "Is your parabatai okay?" Alice looked over at Jace before looking back at me, "Kai... How much of your fire have you used today?" I blinked several times as I felt the world blur and spin around me, "I-I don't know... A lot I guess." The last thing I remembered before crumpling to the ground was Alec speeding towards me.
