Daryl’s eyes blinked open as he felt the cool sheets from the other side of the bed. A frown creased his brow as he looked and saw a note on the other pillow. With his heart pounding and his anger starting to return, he opened it and laughed softly

“Hey Dork,
I didn’t leave (I know that’s what you’re thinking) I went to help Maggie with the kids and breakfast. Come get you some when you’re up”

Yanking on his shorts and jeans, Daryl ran his hand through his hair as he searched for a clean t-shirt. Pulling it over his head and slipping on his boots, he jogged to the big house and smiled again hearing the small excited voices that were eating breakfast and the playful scolding of Gypsy. Walking into the dining room, he was met with 6 pairs of happy eyes who in turn yelled his name.

“Daryl!” they all said

Daryl smiled and was taken a bit off guard as the littlest one, Josie, ran up to him and hugged him around the legs.

“Hey sweetheart” he said softly and swooped her up into his arms.

“Hi Daryl” she said softly “Gypsy said that you weren’t here that you were back home helping them build but I knew you would come”

Daryl felt his heart melt as she hugged his neck.

“Gypsy was right, I was back home helping but I decided to surprise you guys and come see you. You guys behaving for Maggie?” He asked

Several heads nodded then turned to look as Maggie walked into the room

“Well hello there sleepy head” Maggie said smiling

“Hey there Mags” Daryl smiled but looked at Gypsy the entire time. “Smells really good, what’s for breakfast?”

“Eggs, bacon and potatoes” Maggie answered shoveling food onto a plate for him.

“What? No gravy and biscuits?” Daryl teased

“Gravy and biscuits?” Maggie laughed “Who’s been spoiling you these days?”

Gypsy could feel the heat rise in her cheeks as Daryl grinned at her. She hated how he could make her blush at the drop of a hat.

Daryl stared at her again and couldn’t help but chuckle, he loved how he could make her blush instantly. Taking the plate Maggie handed him, he sat down with the kids to eat and listen to their chatter. Watching Gypsy as she cleared the kid’s plates, he began to wonder if she would be up for a little other kind of breakfast after. Just thinking about her like that started feelings in him he hadn’t had in a very long time. Catching her eye and giving her a nod, he turned and looked at the kids again.

“Hey guys, I know we just got her, but Gypsy and I are going to have to leave here in a little bit. We need to go back to the kingdom and help again. We’ll be back to check on you again but we do have to get back” Daryl said

Watching all the young arms hug her goodbye, he started to feel a little guilty taking her away from them again but they really did need to get back so he could show Ezekiel she was OK and more selfishly so he could spend a lot more alone time with her. Hugging Maggie and glancing at Gypsy, they made their way out the door and back to the truck. Putting the bike in the back, they were soon in the cab of the truck and on their way.

It was quiet in the truck for awhile, Gypsy wasn’t sure what to say or do. Glancing over at Daryl who looked to be lost in thought, part of her wanted to slide over and sit next to him but she wasn’t sure they were really there in this sort of twisted relationship. Gypsy jumped as he voice broke the silence.
