-Matthew-

I let out a long sigh as I loosened my tie and leaned back. "Finally I've been working all day," I muttered.

I reached up to take off my tie when my fingers came in contact with Taiga's behavior collar. I couldn't help but glare at my reflection in the mirror on my desk.

Who in the hell does that bastard think he is? Treating me like I'm some animal!

I jumped when my drinking glass shattered in my hand spilling scotch everywhere.

"Fucking hell,"  I muttered as I frantically cleaned up the liquid.

The last thing I need is it ruining my paperwork.

"That's such a shame Matthew, you still have that anger in you."

I looked over my desk to see Opal sitting there just staring at me. Slowly my eyes scanned the room before landing back on Opal.

"Was that you little kitten? You sounded just like Taiga," I told him as I chuckled.

"Well, that's because I took over Opal's body temporarily. Also, you should avoid talking about evil creatures when you think I can't hear you," Taiga informed me as he examined the paws he currently had.

"H-how in the world did you obtain control of Opal's body? If you hurt Corina's cat you know that she'll never forgive you," I reminded him as I watch him paw at his tail.

"Would you fucking relax? I've done this before, back when mommy dearest asked Corina to dinner, a dinner that you practically dragged her to even though she begged you to just leave her be," he said as he leaped up onto my desk.

I looked away as I let out a heavy sigh. "Listen I don't know about how people think where you come from, but here there's no such thing as abusing a child," I told him softly.

He stared at me his gaze almost piercing. "What about the fact that Corina is a girl who did nothing to deserve this in the first place?"

I bit my lip. "Mother used to always tell our father that when a little girl steps out of line when they try to bake like a real housewife or wanted to be heard instead of just seen. S-she used to say that when they do that they need a man to put them in their place," I whispered.

Taiga frowned making his feline face form a strange grimace. "Your father?"

I shook my head. "Father was too kind for that. If he knew mother had Corina committed he wouldn't have stood for it."

I let out a shaky breath. "Our father survived the depression and the drafting, so to lose him to a pool of water was awful. However he died doing what he loved, loving Corina and I. I-I can't fault him for that he loved us, he loved his family."

He sighed as he stared at me. "I understand that you humans live complicated lives you don't have your goals set out in black and white for you. I will be honest though while your behavior lately has been absolutely abysmal, I know how much you care for Corina. And taking care of someone as headstrong as her takes dedication."

I looked at him and let out a snort a slight smile on my face. "Did...you just gain respect for me?"

Taiga nodded then stretched. "A bit."

I froze as I caught a whiff of gunpowder and beer but it was coming from down stairs. Then I heard something fall, the slight crash was soft and if it wasn't for the fact that I wasn't human I wouldn't have heard it.

Taiga opened his mouth as I opened a drawer in my desk. However, I just shushed him and grabbed my gun.

"Do you hear that?" I whispered.

"Actually now that you mentioned it, it does sound like someone is moving around downstairs. And something smells unfamiliar." Taiga said as he sat down.

I walked out of the room, downstairs I could hear someone rummaging down stairs the sound was actually louder now.

I stopped in the middle of the stairway and then I saw the person that was the cause of the noise. A man dressed all in black, wearing black face paint.

He was going through the drawers and cabinets.

Slowly I crept up behind him and pointed my gun directly at the back of his skull.

"That is a 9mm pistol pressed against your skull. You better think very carefully about your current options." I warned him slowly.

The man froze before glancing back at me. "I-I was just looking for a woman! Y-you know some freaky blonde broad!" He stuttered.

I reached out and grabbed his neck sinking my claws into it. "You wouldn't be looking for a woman named Corina by any chance would you?" I asked slowly.

The man nodded frantically. "Yeah, yeah that's her name! I need to get rid of her!" He practically shouted.

I smirked as I pulled the trigger the loud boom from the gun deafening me for a few moments.

"Well his soul looks tasty," Taiga said as he appeared in his actual body.

I let out a sigh. "Do whatever you want with him I don't care."

I left Taiga there as I went to Corina's  room. I walked inside and sat on the edge of her bed.

"Matthew?" She whispered as she opened her eyes.

I reached into my pocket and placed a small canister in her hand. "I want you to have this for protection. It's riot control pepper spray, it's strong enough to  permanently blind  a man." I explained to her.

"Thank you. But why are you giving me this?" She asked.

"I'm giving it to you because you're my sister and I want you to be as safe as possible," I told her as I stroked her hair.
