Me and Hunter sat in the dark bar which slowly got filled with more people. It started to get dark outside. We didn't drink anything, we just sat there, doing nothing. I couldn't stay in my apartment anymore, my apartment with three dead minutemen on the floor. I didn't know what to do.
I looked up at a tv screen which sat on the wall and suddenly it lit up. The tv screen showed the news.
I listened with only half an ear, but when two pictures came up on the tv screen, I was on tenterhooks. Two pictures, a guy and a girl. The girl was me and the guy was Hunter. We are wanted... was my first thought. I quickly poked Hunter with my elbow, but he already looked up at the tv screen.
I tried to hide my face a bit while I listened on what the news reporter said;
"...Their names are Hunter Thompson and Skyler Jones, both a couple of months over eighteen. They live in the ghetto, which makes the fact that they have 500 years quite impossible. Timekeeper Roy Collins and his partners are going out on a mission right away to catch these two criminals, and resume the justice in our world...."
I snorted to myself. Justice? What justice? How can it be fair when some of us have to work everyday to live and some can just walk around and live forever? I took a deep breath and once again drew my attention to the tv screen, where the news reporter still talked;
"...We have information from timekeeper Roy Collins. These two don't only have 500 years on their clock, no, it's actually so impossible that their time is... fake. It's not real time, it's nothing but fake, fake and... fake. And then the question is, how can they live with fake time?" The tv screen suddenly went black and it felt like someone had hit me inte the face. Fake? What do they mean with fake?
Suddenly Hunter took a tight grip around my wrist and dragged me outside the bar. Now it was totally dark outside.
"Did you hear that!?" Hunter said with clenched teeth.
I nodded slowly "Yes, yes I heard."
"That's how the minuteman died..." Hunter muttered to himself.
I frowned. "What?"
"Fake time, you can't live with fake time. When he got too much of my, and yours fake time he died."
I started walking and Hunter followed me. "But why can we live with it?"
"I have no idea, this whole thing is just weird. Where are you going by the way?"
"Home."
Hunter took a hold around my wrist and turned me around. "We can't go home. Didin't you hear the news reporter? That timekeeper will come and look for us, and if he find those minutemen at your apartment it will not be good for us."
"I know and I heard what he said. I just need to go and get some things..."
Hunter interrupted me quickly. "Do you not have the time transfer with you?!"
"Of course I have it with me!" I hissed. "I need to get something I think we probebly will need, becuase we need to get out of here." I kept walking and Hunter was quickly behind me.
"But where should we live, if not in your apartment?"
"I don't mean that we are going to get out from my apartment, I mean that we are going to get out from the ghetto."
----------------
I walked into my apartment and saw the three minutemen lay on the floor. Weird enough I didn't feel guilty for shooting two of them. It had started to smell a bit musty. It felt like it was forever since all this happened but it was only a couple of hours ago.
"Stay here." I said to Hunter and then walked into Vivian's room. I took out two guns and then walked back to Hunter.
I gave one of the guns to Hunter and he slowly took it from my hand. "Do you have guns in your apartment..?"
I opened my mouth but he kept on talking. "Well, it's the ghetto so..." I closed my mouth and nodded.
"Have you ever fired a gun before?" I asked.
I saw Hunter glance at the minutemen. "Yeah, once or twice."
I loaded my gun. "Then let's get out of here."
------------
"Are you sure about this?" Hunter asked slowly. We stood by some train tracks at the end of the ghetto. It was night so nobody would notice us.
"Yes, this is only freight trains. When the timekeepers come here we will be long gone from the ghetto."
"Okey, let's do this." Hunter and I started sneaking towards a train we had earlier seen been laden. Suddenly a train whistle sounded through the air and the train started moving.
"Quickly!" I said to Hunter and we both started running towards the moving train. It wasn't that hard to catch up with the train when it just had started. When you lived in the ghetto you were used to run a lot, and fast.
I took one last step and then jumped. My hand groped a millisecond and then I got a grip around some kind of handle. With all my power I tried to get up the big wooden door into the train car. I got it open just so much that I could push myself through the door. I was inside the train.
I heard a groan and then Hunter squeezed himself into the train car. I let out a loud sigh and then sat down on the dirty floor. The train was slowly speeding up.
"Are you okey?"Hunter asked and sat down beside me.
I took a deep breath, trying to get my pulse to slow down. "Yes. Are you?"
"Yeah, but I'm really tired. Maybe we should sleep?" Hunter laid down.
I nodded and also laid down. When I touched the cold and dirty floor my body trembled.
"Are you freezing?" I could barely see Hunter frown in the darkness.
I squeezed forward a little smile even tho he probebly couldn't see it. "Yeah, a little."
"Come here." I slowly crept closer to Hunter and laid down in front of him. He laid and muscular arm around me and I felt a little bit warmer. It felt cozy to lie there by Hunter, I felt safe.
Hunter cleared his throat "So anyway, where are we going? Or where is this train going?"
"It's going to New Greenwich..."
