DoFlamingo crossed his arms and glared down at the surgeon. "I asked you if you could fix her."
The man shifted nervously, unable to meet the king's eye. "W-Well, 'fix' is a rather optimistic term, b-but I might be able to make it a bit easier for her to walk. O-Of course it would be easier to tell if I could see her."
DoFlamingo growled in the back his throat. "Wait." Turning on his heel, he stalked down the hall, his coat flowing out behind him.
~~~
"You wanna bet?" The cooks watched, dumbfounded, while you shoved two entire doughnuts in your mouth. "I win, yo." The cooks applauded and you bowed. "Thank you, thank you. I'll probably be here all of forever."
The noise suddenly stopped all at once and the cooks scurried away. "Hmm?" You turned and smiled. "Hey, Doffy. You scared my cooks away."
He leaned down and kissed you. "Do you trust me?" You blinked, startled by the sudden question. Did you?
"Yes, DoFlamingo. I do."
~~~
The man poked your leg experimentally and you winced. "Ah. Apologies." He continued with his examination, seemingly fascinated by the places where the bone made twisted ridges beneath your skin. "I can't believe you can even put weight on this! So mangled and crushed."
He sounded really happy about this.
"Yeah. I noticed. Doffy, who is this guy again?" He didn't answer your question, wouldn't even look at you. "Doffy?"
"Are you scared of needles?" Before you could answer the man's question, there was a sharp pain in your neck, and darkness flooded your mind.
~~~
DoFlamingo paced outside the door where the doctor worked, growling to himself. That man better not hurt you. If anything he did made you worse, DoFlamingo would personally rip him limb from limb.
He stopped mid-stride. Why did he care? You were just a toy he'd picked up, nothing more. Right? Then an image came into his head of you laying in the sun that streamed through the window, looking toward him and smiling, happy that he was there. Warmth spread through his chest, a familiar feeling he hadn't felt since childhood. Since Rosinante...
His train of thought was derailed as the door opened and the surgeon came out, looking very pleased with himself. "I must say, I've never seen a bone slammed together in such a haphazard way! I had to re-break her leg twice. She'll never walk straight, but she should be able to stand without pain."
DoFlamingo threw a bag of money at him, the man staggering under the weight. DoFlamingo brushed past him, entering the room where you lay.
~~~
The first thing you noticed was that your leg was throbbing. The next was that you couldn't bend it. Then, that there was a hand holding tightly to yours. You opened your eyes and groaned, the light sending pain thrumming through your head. "Ouch."
There was a soft rustle of feathers and the hand pulled away from yours. "Doffy? Izzat you?"
"I'm right here." Strong arms picked you up and you yelped as your leg was jostled. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry..." He carried you gently, and you didn't bother to open your eyes.
"What happened...?"
"I found someone to fix your leg a bit."
"Wha...?"
"Nothing. Just go back to sleep, okay? I'll take care of you."
You turned your head and pressed your cheek against him, giving a soft sigh as you slipped back into sleep.
