Chapter 5

Cami's pov
This was the moment Kol saw Davina for the very first time and he started questioning himself

Kol's pov

I was walking around town blowing off some steam as I was still dealing from the meeting with my father from last night, my mother had approached me this morning and reminded me that they were doing this out of love and because they wanted me to be happy but I already am happy, I don't need a wife to make me happy, pulling pranks and flirting with the lovely ladies of New Orleans makes me happy but unfortunately I have no choice in the matter and there is nothing I can do get out of it, my and mother and father have said that I am to be married by the end of the year, which is only 7 months away but how can they expect me to get married within so little time, couples don't get married within months of meeting each other they wait a couple of years but no I'm being hurried into marriage there's not even a girl who I currently genuinely like well there was this one Girl Bonnie Bennett I fancied her a little but she turned me down for some guy called Enzo anyway moving on I'm completely dreading the whole thing I could try and hide during the masquerade ball but I know my brothers will just find me and drag me out to my hell but perhaps there is a chance where I don't have to suffer for the rest of my life, I'll simply pick the prettiest girl at the ball to be my bride and then after a year of marriage I'll file for a divorce and I'll be free once more. I whistle as I turn and walk up the market looking at all the things people are selling and in the midst of that, I notice a little boy around the age of 7 or 8 out of the corner of my eye reaching to grab a loaf of bread from the baker's table and attempt to get away which doesn't go unnoticed by the guy running the stall, who roughly grabs the boys arm making him drop the bread and yanking him back in a way I'm sure he almost tore the arm out of its sockets "now what do we have here hmm? A thief" the man says squeezing the boys arm making him cry out in pain "please let go I'm sorry!" The boy pleads "sorry! Sorry won't cut it you tried to steal from me!" The man yells in the boys face "I'm sorry my little sister is so hungry and I don't have any money!" The boys cries frightened by the man cowering over him "I don't care nobody steals from me do you what happens to thieves? They get punished!" The man yells pushing the boy to the ground and raising his foot back obviously going to kick him so I go to step in having stepped out of my state of shock but I'm stopped when a girl around the age of 18 appears out of nowhere and stands in front of the little boy blocking the man's view from him "leave him alone!" She yells her brown hair blowing slightly from the wind, her blue eyes glistening with fire "out of the way girl this is none of your business!" The man yells "I don't care if it's none of my business he is just a little boy and I will not stand back and watch you abuse him!" The girl fires back "he tried to steal from me!" The man yells in defense "regardless of the fact he tried to steal he is still a little boy who just wants to feed his little sister where's your sense of empathy huh?" The girl says while helping the boy back onto his feet the man goes red in the face obviously embarrassed but he doesn't say anything "here's $15 for four loaves of bread" she says grabbing four loaves of bread from his stall while shoving money into his hands before walking after the little boy who had started walking off, I don't know what possessed me but something made me want to follow her so I did and when I found her I saw her sat on the steps of a building comforting the little boy who was crying hysterically "hey it's okay sweetie" she coos to him "I didn't want to steal as I know it's bad but my little sister is really hungry" he cries into the girls shoulder "I understand you were just being a good brother but where are your parents?" She asks "they left us we were put in a bad home the people were very mean and they tried to separate us so we ran away" the boy sniffles "I'm sorry to hear that nobody should have to go through that here I got you something" the girl says pulling out three loaves of bread from her basket "for me?" The boy asks surprised "for you" she replies handing them to the little boy who was clearly a little be happier than he was moments before "thank you" the boy says "no problem so where's your little sister now?" The girl asks the boy doesn't reply he simply stands up and pulls the girl up with him and leads her into the building that was clearly abandoned, I wait a few minutes before walking in after them, I try to be as quiet as possible as I follow them down a staircase leading into a basement, I hide behind a wall to avoid being seen as they approach a little girl around the age of 2 "Ellie" the boy says catching the girls attention "Brandon" the girl says weakly "this nice lady gave us food" Brandon says sitting down next to his sister "tank you" the girl says hugging the brunette making her smile "it's alright sweetie" the girl replied "you pretty" the little girl says smiling before taking a piece of bread that her brother had given her "oh thank you but you are way prettier" the girl says "really?" The little girl giggles "definitely I love your hair" the girl says "I like flower" the little girl says pointing to the rose that was in the girls hair, I watch as the gorgeous brunette removes the rose from her hair and gently places the rose in the little girls hair "you can have it" the brunette says with a smile "tank you" the little girl smiles making a big smile appears on the brunettes face "you are beautiful and you are a brilliant brother" the brunette says pointing to each of the kids "you are beautiful" the boy Brandon says "thank you now I'm afraid I must get going but I promise I'll come back later with more food and some blankets and some clothes" the brunette says standing up "you promise" the little girl says looking up the girl who just turned her whole world around "I promise sweetie" the girl says bringing the two kids into a hug before heading back up the stairs, I wait a few minutes before quietly making my way up deep in thought who is that girl? Where does she live? Is she single? What does her hair smell like? Are her eyes really that blue? Why am I just now seeing the most gorgeous girl I've ever seen in the whole of New Orleans, I didn't know much about anything but what I did know is I wanted to see her again, I wanted to know her and I wanted to help those kids and punish the man for the way he treated the boy and as I leave the abandoned building I can't help but wonder if that girl will be at the ball next month.
